I wish I'd known that about 10 months ago, I was offered a mint 100/3.5 for £220.
Now, after everyone here has been praising it, it's selling for over £350!
Ouch, £350 is a bit steep.
However, I see ffordes.co.uk (I think that's where I got mine from a couple years ago) currently has an EX+ AE version for £239, so they're still available at more "reasonable" prices if you keep your eye out.

So it seems that a ZE MP 100/2 will actually be lighter than a C/Y MM 100/2 plus adapter! I am surprised.
Check out the optics block diagrams in Zeiss' data sheets, and it's not hard to see why. Where the new MP100 has split a couple elements into thinner doublets and triplets for added corrections, the optically simpler CY 100/2 just has big, thick chunks of glass. That lens is almost solid glass inside, and probably not the lighter stuff either

Normally I'd agree Michael, but here the MP has 9 elements and some of those are thick, the C/Y only 6 of which only one is very thick.
