you tell em' Dan FL has ALWAYS been the "odd" destination. Up and down the East Coast I've seen 2 day
as the rule. For some reason it's takes an extra day gettin' delivered in and out of FL addys. Perhaps with all the retired
folks down there...their two speeds are now 'slow' and 'stop'

Update for my conundrum:

Post Office just claimed that an attempt to deliver my package was made on 1/23, though no pink notice was left.
Post Office just claimed that an attempt to deliver my package was made on 1/24, though no pink notice was left.

Shipping Status was not updated. On both days, someone was present at the address, though the buzzer to the apartment was never rung.

As of this morning, the package, plus a second package that just arrived at the Post Office, are being held, at my request, and someone is walking their right now with my ID and tracking information to collect, in-person.

This episode goes well beyond shipping speeds. I'm dealing with an inept carrier. What an ordeal.

Skarkowtsky,
You aren't the first nor will you be the last. It took USPS 10 days "Priority Mail" to get me a package from Michigan to Maryland and even with tracking info showed NO tracking at all until delivered 10 days after shipping.
Then to have mis-information as to what the USPS delivery time is when it is easily obtainable at the counter or internet is beyond me.
Sorry you had to go through this but heh....USPS is in deep do-do!!

Hey Dan,

In this experience, shipping speed was remarkable. It made it to me in Manhattan from upstate NY in two days. The problem is that is' been in the possession of the USPS for an additional three: in the PO, on a truck, back in the PO, and so on.

What the hell is this particular staff doing?!

Obviously, to all of us..anyway with 1 or to exceptions as above noted, they are doing very little!! That is why they are in deep do-do!!!
Dunkin' Donuts is doing a big business.

I haven't had any problem with USPS Priority even lately. 2-4 days arrival rate.

This is BRILLIANT!

The person who picked-up my 2 packages actually picked-up 4! Who knew there were 2 more waiting there?

The two additional packages, according to tracking status as of a few seconds ago ,suggest one is en route, in MI, and the other is en route, in Texas. However, both are in my living room, thankfully.

Way to go, USPS!

Will, you must not have visited Florida in the past ten years, Last time I was there tooling down the freeway doing about 80 mph and getting passed by these little ol ladies in Cadilacs doing 90+ mph. They were just barely able to see over the steering wheel, I'm not sure they could reach the brakes if they wanted too.

Regarding the USPS, 10 -12 years ago I worked on a project studying the efficiencies of service related business's. One of the comps we used was the USPS, along w/Fed Ex, UPS and a few other companies. At that time the Postal Service mgt was very proud of their model of delivery @ 94% - 95%. The intended goal was 95% or higher. We ran the numbers @99% and there would still be millions of pieces of mail/packages/payroll check etc. that would either be delayed/lost or damaged every day. No problem unless it was Your check lost/delayed or package ruined.

All of the private entities wanted 100% delivery re/time & condition knowing it would be one of those unattainable goals but 99% would be better than the alternative of accepting 95%.

Don't have an answer to the delivery issues today other than allow those extra days for delivery when using the USPS regardless of how you send it. If you are one of those that have never had an issue, you are lucky to be in that 94% for now. The numbers suggest you should be good to go 94% to 95% of the time.

Its changed definitely, what took 2 days now takes 3. Its def. the budget and cuts they are taking. Sad but its only gonna get worse because of all the cuts in budget. I still use them and most times it doesn't matter if the receiver gets it in 3 days, I just tell them up front before I ship. I will still use them

OK

My ordeal with USPS is thankfully over. With that, I learned yet another stipulation they abide by.

IF your Priority Mail package is over 2 lbs, the package is loaded onto a special delivery vehicle out for your convenience. IF you live in a neighborhood with apartment buildings, where your daily PO carrier has a key to the doors, you're in big trouble. The special delivery driver reserved for 'heavy' packages does not possess the key to all the apartment buildings on the route, and therefore will take the package back to the PO if no one is at the delivery address to receive (although someone was at my address both days, but whatever).

They also won't leave the pink notice on the outside door, because it can blow away, or be stolen. The only course of action is to try to track this down on your own, then plead with the PO clerks to hold it at the station so you can grab it yourself.

I'm not sure if this has always been the policy, but I DO know that I've received Priority packages heavier than 2lbs, delivered to my door in recent weeks.

Thank certain members of the Senate, who have laid requirements on the Post Office, specifically to destroy it by starving it; all to push us into the arms of UPS, DHL, FedEx and the like, and in the process boost the profits of those companies. It's going to get worse.

I just got a parts package from UPS and they left it outside my front door with just one knock on my door. I saw a UPS driver throw a package at the neighbor's front door and then drive away. A few years ago, I sent a box of camera gear to Florida, insured and return receipt requested, and USPS left it at my friends front door. He could not believe it when he saw it outside. I have checked USPS shipping numbers and they have had nothing to do with where the package is. The local post office said they only know...which was nothing but an excuse that they knew nothing more than what I was reading. They could not verify. I am worried each time, and for each method of delivery. My advice for USPS is to get a rapport going with your letter carrier. It might be that your local letter carrier brings it out in his/her vehicle when it is time to deliver it to you, (so never piss them off).

Mail with a Return Reciept request MUST be sign for, according to the Post Office's own regulations, in all cases. Items sent by Certified Mail and Parcel Post, with a return reciept travel with the reular mail, but are delivered separately, since they require a signature. Registered Mail is not only delivered separately, but travels separatrely, and requires a signature not onyl from the addressee, but from every Postal employee who handles it (the beg is opened, the items compared with the master list, and everything is sealed up and moves on).

Thats pretty good. I recently had a Priority Mail item take 10 days to go from one end of Michigan to the other. Like yours, tracking information never changed until day of delivery.

USPS has closed a number of sorting facilities, as a result all mail is taking 2-5 days longer. Though in one case it took 8 weeks for a letter mailed from my state DMV office to reach me. Not only has Priority mail cost skyrocketed delivery times have grown. But still cheaper than UPS and Fed Ex.

So I ship another package (a lens I sold on here) to another member, it gets all the way from me to HIS POST OFFICE, then it gets turned around and ends up back on my door step a few days later. Why?

It was short $.91 postage. Yes, let's turn a 1 way trip into 3 trips just to make sure we get that 91 cents. Idiots.

How did it ever leave in the first place? THEY set the prices, and THEY weigh the packages before loading them. Morons!

Yep!! I know! The seller and I were both tracking it and we were both confused as heck when it got to his local post office, then all of a sudden we're seeing that it's heading back towards me. He tried finding out what was wrong and the only answer he got was that I put the wrong postal code on it. But that wasn't the case obviously, when I got it back it had a sticker on the address with the red hand saying return to sender, postage due: $.91. And the buyer made a great point, WHY NOT DELIVER IT at that point or hold it at the post office until the receiver pays the $.91
