Thanks ZoneV for the reply - and sorry for your posting issue. I take it then that you would think in either case (a single element off center or all elements tilted) I should not accept this and send it in to Elite for repair/replacement?

How easy it for a tech to fix an issue like this?

It is possible that hole lens is tilted, as I stated before.
A single lens element decentring is possible to, but I would think this is much more unlikely.

I would suggest to send the lens back for repair.
On my lens I plan to make a new back end, instead of this cheapo lastic parts - with more focus range for near field use.

I don't know, but agree with ZoneV that it doubtful that an element is misaligned. It looks like the lens barrel/mount is slightly tilted. Have you tried to focus the upper left? What does that do to the right side?

Perhaps there is a way to shim the mount if you find there is a definite alignment problem.

Otherwise, send it in for repair/replacement if it is new.

Shims could help - but I suppose you loose you warranty.
I have shimmed my lens for the focus adjustmentThe other way didnīt worked for my lens.
You need very exact shims for that.
But some time later I realized that the hole front end of the lens wobbles. Found out, that the three (or four) screws on the outer diameter of the lens were a bit loose. And after I pressed the front and back together, and screwed the screws, the focus adjustment shims where no longer needed.
But some times later the front wobbles again, screwing the screws end in a stuck iris!
--> That is what I call bad mechanics.
And now the lens is not parallel to the film. I hope to make my own lens back end, probably next months. With higher precision and better material - more metal.
Until then the lens is not usable.

So my recommendation: Test the lens as soon as one get it, and send it to repair as long as you have warranty. And tell us, whether the lens is repaired or exchanged. Up to now I read only about full replacements.

This evening I opened the Samyang lens a bit further.
And found the real problem of my lens: Inside the lens three screws where loose, and this results in ~1.3 mm play in the optical axis, and less rotation. I fixed that (and drop a bit nail-color on the screws border), and build the lens together. First indoor tests looks bad - but I need to see that outdoor.
Friday I have a day holiday (ok, have my baby) - and a very promising weather forecast :-)

An update for everyone...

Elite Brands HQ in New York (very nice people to deal with) sent me another lens and it is much better than the other two!!!

There is some slight softness on the right , say maybe 10% which diminishes at higher F stopes, while the left is perfect. The key thing for me is that the softness on the right it seems to be less of an issue at infinity, which is where I will be shooting >90% of the time with this focal length - so, even with that, I am calling this a 'good copy' and will keep it!

I am very picky (and I bet if I sent this one back they would say it was within tolerences, and I would tend to agree!) and slow to warm up to new equipment, but I think I am going to fall madly in love with this lens!!!

Zone V - did you get your issue resolved?

No, not up to know. But I didnīt took the time to do the test with thin spacers under the screws. Need to do that. At the moment I use the old Zeiss Contax 18mm f/4 lens instead - much better mechanics.

I get more and more the feeling that Samyang lenses are not repaired, only exchanged when problems occur?
