If that's all that will be on the SSD, then consider the OCZ Vertex 3 VTX3-25SAT3-60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III one for $74 after MIR. I have it on one of my computer setups and I have my OS and various other programs on it with 22 gb to spare, but it depends on how many programs you have to install of course. Besides, its about double the speed as the one you chose.
From what I've read the MB you've selected needs the new cpu to get the most out of it. Maybe consider this board - P8Z68V-LE and put the savings to the i7 2600k. Either way you go definitely get the K unit so that you can overclock. LR will definitely take advantage of the OC speed and I've seen it. Importing photos got faster, exporting photos got faster and rendering photos got faster, opening images in the Develop mode got waaaaayyy faster (almost instantly), but I am coming from a 6 year old computer. As I've stated, I've watch LR max out my OC (4.4ghz) when loading and rendering images, so you will see benefits with OC, plus its as simple as 3 changes in the BIOS to OC with Asus MBs. Sitting and waiting while that hour glass spin and spin before an image renders drove me nuts.
Just a thought.

I understand that the SSD will NOT improve my work in LR. I'm only getting it to have my OS and Program files on it. I will store all my other files on the HDD and have 2 other drives for backup.
You may want to consider just using the onboard graphoics on a Z68 board.
Mine ran a 30" Dell at 2560x1600 plus a 19" LG at 1280x1024 with no problem in lightroom!
I have since upgraded to an AMD 6870 video card, but that is strictly for gaming.
I did not notice a significant change when going from the onboard graphics to the discrete video card.
Just watch that the MOBO you choose has the video connections you want to use. I had to look around a lot to find one that has display port, as well as usb 3, and a decent number of SATA 3 6 Gbs connections.

i7-2600k is at best 10% faster than i5-2500k in research artists photoshop tests. If not overclocking you could go with the i5-2500 or i5-2400. I would recommend either an antec neo eco or high current model as both are made by seasonic - not sure about the bp550. Crucial m4 is a great ssd - not sure about sandisk. Memory is cheap - get 16gb. For the best advice on components go to the general hardware forum at www.hardocp.com.

cpu + memory
maybe HD speed
not sure it uses video card all that much, one day perhaps they will leverage the gpus more espc since image processing is soooo in line with what gpus can do well
I realize that a general performance benchmark may not translate into specific application performance the same way (i.e. more or less). Can you point us to your source, thanks.
That was using CS4 (and we don't even know if it was 32 or 64), not LR and the link for the test points out that the test was rather old ... which may have not been rigorous enough to exploit the differences between them, hence the new test being developed.
Looking at the results for the Cinebench 11.5 we don't see much difference, but the Cinebench 11.5 hyperthreaded test shows a marked difference (27%) ... suggesting that the software utilization is a piece of the puzzle in taking advantage of the performance variance. Also, the Excel Monte Carlo, shows a marked difference as well (39%).
I wouldn't put too much stock in an old test that the author himself says is antiquated and is developing a more appropriate test "coming soon" ... in comparing the i5 vs. the i7. That's kinda like reading a report from a State Trooper that clocked a Yugo doing 65 and a Jaguar doing 70 and then saying the Jaguar isn't much faster than a Yugo.

LR is much better threaded than PS, you can see it for yourself: open activity monitor and run a batch export in LR. See 'all' the cores light up. Now a similar heavy duty, sustained task in PS. Only one half the 'cores' are used. i.e. PS is multicore aware but not multithread.

Just a little update. I have received all my parts and will try to get it built by Sunday. When I get a chance, I'll let everyone know what I think.
Well I finally got it built, but I had some issues. After installing Windows and all the updates including Driver updates all was fine. The next morning it wouldn't boot. When I finally made it in to safe mode the computer crashed. It would not power up any longer. After much head scratching and exchanging some parts, I discovered that it was the RAM that was the culprit. The particular Asus MB I'm using has LEDs next to each component that will light up when you hit the power switch if there's a problem with that part.
With all of that behind me all I can say is WOW! It's like coming from a VW to a Ferrari. LR is so much more enjoyable to use as it does everything a 1000 times faster. I loaded it along with my OS on to the SSD.

Enjoy it!
I was lucky with mine, in that everything worked right off the bat, but lately I have been chasing a piece of hardware that has been causing blue screen for me! I think I have traced the cuplrit, but only time will tell.
