p.2 #1 · question on creating sports posters with action cutouts in Photoshop
I use the quick selection tool in CS5...Then I take care of the tough spots with the pen tool after zooming in. Has worked great for a long time for me. I create LOTS of posters for parents.
I am testing the latest tool/Plug-in from Topaz labs and it seems to work great. It still requires fine tuning if hair is involved.

Everyone ... as of this post , there ia NO way to do an "easy" cutout. If it were easy then photogs wouldn't be spending millions of dollars on green screening.

If doing on site I wouldn't recommend doing cutouts unless you are having each player pose in front of a green screen. Just do a single photo with a border and personalized. Very quick and easy.
Take orders for the cutout posters to deliver at a later date.

+ a zillion! That's no S&*t! When I first started, I tried the magnetic Lasso tool and I sucked at it so bad I bought a program to do my cutouts. I have used Fluid Mask for several years and love it. It has a blend tool that does a great job of doing flying hair in action shots. I've known guys who had "not so good" results with it, but it's been really good to me. I paid $99 for it years ago, and they still support it and send me upgrades.....
