I am thinking of getting the new Nex7, this lens is also design to fit this model I assume
I have the nex5 with zeiss 45mm f2 and 28mm f2.8
these lenses are very sharp wide open, how sharp is the new 24mm 1.8 wide open
This is so perplexing to me. I've been quite interested in this lens just to have some auto focus capability for street shooting. Something with higher quality than the kit lens. The reviews have been mixed at best. I like that the lens is seen to display a quality character. Sharpness seems to be positive and negative. Autofocus is somewhat of a mystery. My own unqualified, non-scientific experience in the camera store recently with the Zeiss 24 on my 5N indicated erratic hit and miss with autofocus accuracy. This included focusing on roughly 3x5 inch product placard on the store shelves. At varying distances, I was not impressed by the autofocus accuracy. Manual focusing was better on most occassions.
I realize, there's little scientific rigor in my assessment (observation, really) and this is no indication of how the lens will perform on the street, but to spend $1000 and not be sure is, as I said, perplexing. I think many of us want this lens to be a star.
Outstanding indoors in close quarters and in low light. Also great as a street shooter. Not as sharp as the Contax G45 but few lenses are. Having autofocus is a blessing in situations involving kids and people.
