That said too, I've been aching to get back to a FF camera, but can't justify it right now with my lack of shooting. Heck, I can't currently justify having a Fisher Price "My First Camera" with the lack of shooting that I'm suffering right now!!! Enjoy your 5D, it's a very nice machine !!!

I just picked up the 5D MkII myself a few weeks back. It's a big difference from what I was using!! Of course I also had to buy some new glass to go with it, so I bought the 135 f/2L and the 70-200 f/2.8L II. I packed up the crop back into it's original box, and now I just need to quit being so lazy and try to sell some of my old stuff

I don't get it. Even after shooting film for 30 years I still do not see the fascination with full-frame unless you are a super-WA shooter. I shoot with a couple of MkIV's but I also have a 5DII. To me, the only difference is the 5DII has some more pixels. Otherwise I fail to see any "magic" with a full frame sensor. I used a Nikon D3 for 18 months but ended up selling it - no magic there either. :-)
Full frame for me just means more sensor to get dirty and all my telephotos are suddenly shorter. :-) Even when shooting wide-open with full-frame vs. 1.3X I don't really see much of a DOF difference (even with my 200/2.0).

I keep a "high pixel density" camera for birding. As it happens, it is a crop camera, again by coincidence it's a 7D

I've yet to see so-so images made good by someone buying a FF digital camera. 1Ds and 5d are fantastic cameras to be sure, but I personally think the 1.3 on the D series is killer as well. In fact, if I wasn't content with what I have currently waiting to check out the X, I would be using a 1D4 now quite happily.

Same framing, yes, but not the same 'effect' or look. While I don't think FF is the end-all of DSLR formats it does have superior DOF control over APS-H and, more noticeably, APS-C. Speaking in terms of format only I prefer FF>APS-H>APS-C.

Back in the day I seem to remember it was EOSfun who told me that digital crop is roughly analogous to 35mm film, and digital full frame is roughly analogous to medium format film.
Seems to me after using both crop and FF side by side myself that he was right, and that each sensor format offers its own combination of benefits and costs. For example, sometimes I use my crop body because I want to maximise depth of field, other times I reach for my full frame for low light work.
I am sure I will be using both crop and FF side by side for a long time! Don't see it as an "either or" thing myself.
I never really saw the difference in DOF or the "magic" of FF... But I for sure see the better detail and lower noise at all ISO's... The most important thing, to me.
Everything else? meh. Don't see it. Even when I really, really try with extremely fast glass (85L for example). I could not tell if put side by side.
But I for sure can tell at 100%, peeping the details and clarity.
And I like my 70-200 better on FF... The FL just sings on my 5D.
