A few from this morning, dragging around the FD 400mm f2.8 (MF), and to lighten the load, the FD 85 f1.2 L.
HelenaN: Beautiful X10...I was in an area this past week that had pitch black skies, but none of the wonderous colors that you captured. A+
Tenn.Jer: It was all of 16*F this morning here, and some of the water had a skim-coat of ice when I was out....it is gone at this point. I saw some snow in NV and in the eastern Sierra region, but ran out of time to get to Tahoe; next trip, hopefully.
15Bit, I agree with the Canadian POV; the square one hits the mark...
For me, the detail in the tiny trees and their elongated shadows just pull me right into the landscape...beautiful rendition of a magnificent scene...I'd love to be standing in front of a square meter-sized print...
Funnily enough i still prefer the wide version, but then i'm not generally the best judge of my own work. Incidentally, if you look closely at the square format you should be able to make out a few locals on their skis.
Jerry, the chances of a metre sized print are pretty slim. I have no experience of upscaling, and this one would need quite a bit of that (original was 8MP before crop). I also have no idea where to get a big print run off. More practically, i have nowhere to put it anyway
15bit: Jools, that photo is very worthy to hang, seriously. All the elements are there, especially in the "Blad" format...
Tenn.Jer: Jerry, thanks for the kind words; using the 400mm f2.8 is like going to the gym on every outting. I took Peter's advice to bring at least the monopod, which I now do, with the RRS HD tilt head...a wonderful product that can tilt and lock tight.
onegreatcity: Thanks Cam, and nice imaging also...
bcguy: Very nice work of your side of the Rockies; need to get back there someday soon.
gxgn: Very nice...I see that the ice is gone from many areas back here, including this part of NE.
John_T: Wonderful capture!
Going out later today with the FD 500mm f4.5 on the "stick" for some local waterfowl, as soon as I get the first part of another project to the "happy" point...
PetKal: Peter...where are you? Is it time to get the SAR teams activated...?
Fantastic shots Roboticspro, and I'm almost a little jealous of the swans! I waited around patiently last Saturday hoping for a pair to strike just such a pose, but they never even came close.
Those swans should be on the front of your Valentine's Day card, Edd; a perfect day for reflections, too - the mallard couple make an attractive foursome...
Great swan shot Edd. Can't tell you how much time i've sat watching swans waiting for something like that to present itself. And well timed for Valentines too.
15Bit, kbperry810, Tenn.Jer: Thanks for the kind words...it was just a perfect combo (the swans) for all of 10-15 seconds as they approached each other, paused, then broke-off. I used the eyes as a focus point with the sun-glint, and that usually helps to nail it with the long manual focus glass.
Looks like my woodlands might see a bit of the white stuff tonight; air temps & moisture just about right...

There isn't much color in the forest on a rainy winter day, so I removed what there was for these graphic studies...(doesn't "graphic studies" sound pretentious? )
