The OP's profile states he already has the following lenses:
85mm f1.8 USM, 24-105mm f4L, and 70-200mm f4L IS.
Good to know, though I figure that if the OP feels that this is important information it would be a good idea to include it in the post - since I cannot always look up the profile of everyone who posts here! :-)
But... with those lenses in hand... it seems even less likely the the 100mm prime would make sense for "portrait" use.
For the same money you can buy studio lights and some background paper and shoot using controlled lighting with your existing lenses at f/5.6, like the professionals.
I bought the 100L after getting a 5DII and realizing that I missed the 60/2.8 EF-S Macro. I like using the 85/1.8 more for existing light portraits, but have used the 100L also and it does make a good portrait lens. Here is a sample of a shot I did of my son for his high school yearbook.
Before you switch to 100L remember that 100L is very slow to focus in low light compare to 85. I can’t image having 100L as my only portrait lens. To me it is not a good idea unless you plan on keeping your 85; in that case 135L will be a lot better match with 85.
