I am trying to compare the services offered by pro accounts in Zenfolio and Smugmug.
Does anyone have experience with either one of these and any reasons for why I should choose one over the other?
I am interested in the following features:
1. End user experience
2. Configuration/set up
3. Pricing for selling prints and other merchandise
4. Servers downtime issues
5. Print quality from printing options

I like smugmug better BUT and the big but is that BOTH of these services are stuck in the past and forcibly convert all uploads to sRGB even if you actually want to make a special wide gamut gallery. Total stone age mentality. Next thing you know they will decide they know better than the artist and decide that B&W is more artsy than color and forcibly convert all images to B&W. A shame since both are nice, especially Smugmug, otherwise and other than that I don't think any of the others are as nice.
I've been with ZF for a few years. I haven't looked at SM since I made my decision. Part of that decision, and I don't know if it still applies, was due to the option to remove all traces of ZF branding where SM didn't offer that. ZF also uses mpix and mpixpro which I absolutely love.
I used both and ended up with Zenfolio. I love zenfolio. When I have an issue I contact them and its fixed. You should really just trial both of them and get a few prints made and decide for yourself. You not only want to look at the backend, but look at what the customers see. if your customers cant figure it out then its not worth it.
I have used both. Used Smugmug for over a year before trying Zenfolio. Prefer and decided on Zenfolio as my primary service. Overall I find Zenfolio easier and more effective to work with in setting up galleries, pricing, permissions, etc. plus prefer Mpix as a partner vendor.
