Philber, your pictures of Japan are excellent. I suspect that if you'd had a different camera with you, whether larger or smaller, more or less expensive, older or newer, you'd still have gotten fine photos. To me the question is, which box makes you excited to go out and shoot! That's the best one, every time.

I couldn't agree more, Trakl, and thanks for the kind words! At this point, my feeling is that IQ is better with my 5DII and top glass, though that could change when I get my hands on my NEX 7 next week.. However, the type of camera (size, weight, features, user interface) is so different from one to the other that I am quite happy to have both at this time. I can't take my 5D II to a customer meeting, and I can't shoot portraits with my NEX 5N. I love to shoot my 5N from the waist with the screen swiveled up and magnified LiveView, and I love the Canon's VF. So, despite the advantages of having a single system, for the time being, I am keeping both. But the speed with which mirrorless cams are improving means that the 5D III had better be good, otherwise all-mirrorless is the way I am headed.

The screen only swivels on one axis. So, for portraits,mInhave to use it at eye height with the LCD, which I find much less satisfactory than a VF. Hopefully, the 7 will solve that.

Philber, but on the NEX 5N you can have an EVF for the times you think you need a viewfinder, can't you? I think you ordered one and didn't like it, but the one on the NEX 7 won't be any better, according to what I've read…

What l really didn't ilke with the 5N VF was the mechanical side. It was fiddly to attach to the camera body, and less that confidence-inspiring about pocketing the camera with it mounted on. The fact that it is integrated on the 7 avoids these issues, so I can then form an opinion on its usability.

Philber, I was worried about the same with the 5N EVF, but I've not really seen any issues with durability in my first few months of use. I basically leave it on all the time, and I often accidentally grab the camera by the EVF when removing it from the bag without issue. I figure, I've spent nearly $200 on several M lens adapters, so occasionally having to throw in another few hundred bucks, if the EVF does break, is not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things. Granted, I might be willing to give up the tilt for the integrated EVF of the NEX-7, but the NEX-7 shots that I've seen with the CV 15/4.5 and ZM 35/2, both of which I use, are keeping me away from that camera.

The only time I had problems with the EVF was when the screw got loose. But generally speaking, it feels pretty solid… I also keep it on all the time

Regarding the EVF, mine is always mounted too. But I seldom use it as the touch screen on the 5N enables a single click on where to focus. In fact, I found myself becoming increasingly annoyed having to fold it up every time to keep it away from the screen when focusing. But it makes the camera look good - wish I could find usage for it :o)
