Checked out the site after seeing this post and signed up for a free account. Very, very cool and may be an alternative to my flickr account. Thanks, OP, for bringing this to my attention. When I leave work, I'll be going through this thread to check out all the rest that posted their 500px info.

If you plan on upgrading to Awesome, use promo code "friends" and it will save you $10 the first year. Thought you might want to know. Very cool! Thanks
Does anyone have any advice regarding driving more traffic?
I review fresh and upcoming photos daily, and "like" or "favorite" ones that appeal to me, and follow users whose work I admire. I've noticed that a number of those people then view my work and comment, etc. I usually do the same thing, I tend to check out the work of those that add me, or comment on my images.
I also agree with Michael's comment above, the more often you upload something, the more you are likely to have some traffic. Most of my activity has come immediately after uploading a new image. I don't have much variety up yet, but I'm working on that.
I would suggest you follow as many photographers as you can or want, and get them to reciprocate. Upload images at random intervals, because they don't stay in the "Fresh" section very long because images are being uploaded constantly. Also, help out those you follow by liking some of their images and making comments.
I've tried uploading at different times of the day and find that during the day (US time) seemed best for getting noticed.
I've followed you and would be great if you follow me. You should get a notice that Rodney Ninow is following you in your email.

I just made "popular" for the first time with one of my images (just barely). Probably short lived as it's been up for almost a day, but still kind of cool.
dave, i had a photo selected for 'fresh' then it quickly made it to popular. i think i was up to 94.1%. but then like a week later, the same photo was down to 75%. it was fun while it lasted!
