Yes a piece of equipment that your friend gave you o make a review And you didn't even buy it.
I don't really mind and it's ok with me. But of course it's a promotion for your friend and his invented quick release.
Yes you don't make money. But you get it free. And you do it for your friend. We will never see any people telling us not to buy their friends piece of equipment because it's not good or not working as good as the competition. Every friends product will always be good of course.
I don't mind you do it. But be open and tell the truth from the start. It is a promotion

Well if you don't think it will work for you then simple, don't buy it.
Yes I got them for free, so?
No point of arguing. Go spend your energy on creating images instead.

Well, they are for sale now and I bought and PAID FOR the first one from OPG. I'll post my thoughts on it as soon as I receive it and test it out.
Mine is on the way as well. Of interest to others who may be looking to buy one, it looks like they come with two head adapters. Also there was a 10% off coupon on anything on the OPG site that worked for the order.

I have a friend that makes lens-plates. But I don't make any advertisements for his stuff here
Give it a break Sven. Troy indicated he is not associated with the company. Why don't you go ride the members from B&H, Adorama and F-Stop that are directly employed by said companies and post threads which directly benefit those companies.

Thank you Chez, some people are just that way. It is pure jealousy, just like when they are jealous of your photography, trying to find opportunity to bring you down. Instead of wasting time being negative and try to bring someone down, spend it doing something productive. I have seen this in just the two years I have been shooting.
Also if B&H and Adorama are Interested in carrying this part, I'm sure my friend would be glad to get in touch with them.
I do not see the point of this device. I too use a Arca type plate to mount my lens to a gimbal arm and this "quick release" does not change that and adds weight to the lens which is the last thing I want.
I use a Wimberley SideKick that requires only a turn of one knob of the quick release holder on my ball head to release it from the tripod if that is what I wanted to do and requires no extra mechanism or weight.
Even ignoring all that it does not make sense to add the gimbal mount to the tripod and then with the tripod sticking up in the air, carefully position the now heavier lens precisely over the receiver mount attached to the tripod. I would much prefer to have the tripod ready to go with the gimbal head and then attach the Arca plate of the lens foot as a last step, and when dismounting the lens as the first step.
The execution seems to be very good but the overall design concept was not fully thought out.
Sidekick mounts are what is not thought out well. Hard to get a big lens on them, you'll eventually notice the lens will not rotate smoothly in the tripod collar and you'll never achieve true balance like you will with a gimbal. The usefulness of the quick release is obvious to anyone with an open mind. ONE set of legs for TWO types of head. Try to use a wide angle lens on a gimbal head. I'm glad you like your Sidekick. i didn't care for mine at all. To each his own.

Ok. I tried and it worked very good
If you like a cheaper and smaller solution just buy the M-8 Perpendicular Plate from Wimberley. Compared to the tripod quick release it's smaller, has a lower price. And the change from tele to wide angle is faster.
Yes to each his own The tripod quick release has it's place. But it's not like it's the only, or lowest priced, or smallest solution out there
Hey, if you're happy with it, more power to you. Looks pretty shaky to me. How many knobs must be turned to operate this? Let's see, ball head = one. Your contraption = at least 3. You could also wrap a Gorillapod around the Wimberley as well and have the ultimate cheapo rig!
IMHO, sidekick is one of the worst piece of equipment ever designed. I shoot with 600 f/4 and I would never trust that side mount for sure. I have see someone use it with the Canon 400 DO and just putting it on seemed awkward.
Again, this is just my humble opinion.

It's not made to be used with your 600 lens. It's for smaller tele lenses according to Wimberley. And that's why they also make the full Wimberley head for lenses like the 600 or 800

How many heads do you need in the field for your solution. Let's see, one ballhead and a full Wimberley that you have to change every time you go from tele to a smaller lens.
And you belive a full Wimberley Head or a RRS monopod head is shaky If they can hold my 800 lens without any problem. Then I belive a wide angle will be ok also

What I think would be shaky is the monopod head attached to the Wimberley. Either one by itself is rock solid. That's why I use a Wimberley head. I'm no good with a monopod so I don't own the RRS one. It boils down to you like what you like and I like what I like. We will probably never agree on this piece of equipment.

I don't understand what you talk about Monopod ? As you can see on the photo, it's attached to an RRS Systematic series 5 tripod. You can see 3 legs
