54MP? So that will be file sizes in the 60Mb+ region. I guess if you can afford the camera you can also afford a box of 64Gb CF cards and a Petabyte storage array for home.
I have taken ~500,000 1Ds3 photos through 2010/2011, and they all live happily on a DroboPro in my closet (full of 2TB drives). It's not as bad as you think, and even at 3x the file size of the 1Ds3, that would be good for 200,000 shots, which for most "actual pros" shooting with that camera would be more than 2 years worth of work, at today's price of about $2000 for storage... peanuts.
I think the 54MP number is preposterous, but if it's real, bring it on.

I'd believe the 32MP @ 10fps as plausible but 54MP in a 35mm sensor, although still lower pixel density than Sony's new 24MP sensor and Panasonics 16MP m4/3 sensor, I just can't believe. Seriously if you want to make those sorts of huge prints, you won't be enlarging from a 35mm sensor, you'd be using a MF 40MP+ camera.

There has been talk for quite a while for canon competing with MF. If it is true then they are competing with the big boys. All MF is 16 bit and really that is why the images from MD are so smooth.
They want the 5D to be more video with the ability for stills. It makes more sense to me that the order of announcement in November especially in Hollywood, there will be a new video camera. The 1Ds4 and 5D3 may tag on or be announcements later on.
They have been struggling for the past 6 months with all that has happened and obviously want to come back with gusto.

500,000 frames in 550 days 80 weeks, less 1.5 days off per week for r&r and processing, client discussions/sales leaves 430 days to shoot.....
Working 10 hr days over a frame a minute and you are primarily a landscape photographer................
Right!

Three time lapse movies spanning several days. About a dozen of 1Ds3 cameras involved in each shoot. Trust me, it adds up.
Processing time was ~12 days CPU (24/7) on my Nehalem 8-core MacPro, per movie. Or about $120 in electricity per movie Not including my time in front of the screen.

Well, when I have assistants shoot who have a 7D I'm not overly impressed by image quality so unless Digic V does something astounding with that amount of pixels I'd be looking at medium format for that kind of pixel count.

54mp.. well, if it was a 36mm square sensor, and the camera had user selectable crop settings (square, 4:5, 2:3 etc...) and a simple thumb switch to flip horizontal or vertical composition where needed, visible in the viewfinder, you could do away with the need for a vertical grip. That would be nice. Just sayin' ...

Wow....
I'm always surprised how often these threads sprout (like weeds in a garden I suppose), but most of all how anyone can believe them. 90%-99% nonsense...
BTW - I'm sticking by what I said a long time ago (here's one from August)
"if there's a new 1Ds it will be 2012, and a 5d in very late 2012 or more likely 2013"...

They've been predicting these specs for a long time. I've come to believe it's a waste of time getting your hopes up at all. How many release dates have we heard saying that they're going to be a 2011 release? .

Can't say as I want 54 megapixels but I definitely want as much dynamic range improvement as I can get. The one thing I am always looking for is always more DR with my 5d.
