Let me see if I got this straight, just for keeping things straight.

You have FD lenses, mounted to an FD/EOS teleconverter combo and they work on your EOS bodies?

I swear, I may buy one just to do that.

There's not a lot of real bargains to be had with FD lenses when you factor in the work that is needed to convert them or use them. You might as well go with easier-to-adapt lenses like Nikon F or Olympus OM lenses.

Kava, you are in Hawaii and with a lens like that, I would LOVE to see what shots you could capture, regardless if it is film

I'm so jelly. Go for an EOS mount conversion IMO. Shame to waste such a nice lens on 35mm film.

The latest Gen5 version of the EdMika EF-FD 0.75mm brass glassless adapter will be back on eBay within a day or so, I have the first two parts in my hand to take pictures of at this moment. It will get your FD800mm 5.6L beast (and the FD 600 4.5 and 500 mirror) focusing to infinity on any Canon EF/EF-S mount camera body (SLR and DSLR) without permanent modification of any kind. Save the beautiful vintage gear from obsolescence and vulgar permanent modification. Also I am a week away from releasing a FL 55 1.2 EF-S conversion kit that you yourself can use to non-destructively and reversibly convert the wonderful plentiful and low cost f/1.2 FL mount lens to EF-S mount (EF works too but to infinity focus you have to shoot in live preview to prevent mirror hit) in 5 minutes with all tools and fasteners provided.

Wow! this is like finding a classic car in a barn, congrats on the lens. After viewing some sample photos it looks like it would be a great nature lens.

Here is the prototype pic of the FL f/1.2 EF-S conversion, the solid metal lens looks and feels really nice on an EOS body. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ontarian/5607916962/in/photostream

Hi,

Sounds like a winner for us with FD glass, both short and long. Thank you Ed for joining in and helping to keep these great optics in continued service.

A fortune is relative. Leica sells adapters for over 600 and No-name china brands sell for under 10. I pay to have my design manufactured on a new vertical CNC mill in Toronto Canada with the typical high precision that would be expected unfortunately along with the high Canadian labour and overhead costs also. I source my programmable dandelion Gen4 af-confirm chips from Belarus as they are the best performance and form factor I have thus far tested from all available chip options. I sell my hand finished, assembled, programmed and individually tested by me product for 165 US dollars (comes to about 155 Canadian these days). I have sold over 50 adapters since last fall and feedback has been overwhelmingly and exclusively positive.

Ed,

I just ordered one, and will give it a whirl on my 800mm when I get back down to Eglin AFB, where it calls home now. I will also give it a shot on my 300mm f2.8. While it may not hit infinity, I will probably get at least 350-500 feet, with F-C and at f2.8. That will be fine for birds in shade/low-light conditions.

Good luck with your endevours!

Edd

Thanks for your order Edd, I'll have it in the mail for you tomorrow morning and programmed to report 800mm at f/5.6. I would be surprised if the 300 reached that far, the f/4 300 version gets about 300 feet but if you find a focus stop under the rubber grip you may be able to focus much farther. I managed to get infinity focus on my FD 85-300mm f/4.5 zoom between 250 and 300 after I removed the focus stop pin.

-Ed with the one d
(lol get it? as in mark4/our names)
(yes I ate paint chips as a child)

Thanks for your order kavawavaphoto, I'm still ridiculously jealous of your garage sale find. I'll have your Gen5 adapter programmed at 800 5.6 and in the mail to Hawaii pronto.

Also Edd, great minds think alike, this was one of my first attempts at getting a higher quality IQ from my first big lens, the FD600 4.5. Like you I converted an FD 1.4x-a extender to EF on one side using the logic that it is just a higher magnification but still high quality version of the original Canon FD to EF 1.26x multiplication adapter. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ontarian/4145486622/in/set-72157623884845990
