My initial tests show the Rokkor 80-200 Zoom to be quite exception as well!
It's a constant f/4 if I'm not mistaken and zooming requires almost no refocus adjustments. I was quite impressed with it! Certainly on an µ4/3 it's IQ is as good or better than any of the MD/MC primes it's FL covers.
The 80-200/4.5 is the oldest of the 3 versions (75-200/4.5 and 70-210/4). All 3 are highly regarded among Minolta shooter though I wouldn't go as far as claiming their IQ was as good or better than any MD/MC lenses it's FL covers.
I have a duo, the 58/1.2 and 28/2.8. Both old versions with the metal grip. The 21 is probably the coolest thing I can put on my NEX, it's in pristine condition with a tiny hood topping its looks. But I am not using it as much as I'd like to, probably because I have the Contax G 21/2.8. The Rokkor 21 performs well, below is a shot from yesterday. Dunno if I'll keep it as I have the Contax.

I do have a preference towards the all metal bodied lenses, I may get some Rokkor X at some point.
all the MC lenses are metal bodied, some just have a little rubber over the metal, but i agree. i'd pay an extra hundred bucks more for a metal ring on a 58/1.2 (luckily i don't need to, i have two).
i've always been curious about the 28/2.5, but the 28/2 has a much better mfd and most people i've heard from say the f/2 is better. i'm quite fond of mine, but the large size and moving filter ring design annoy me. i'm very tempted to trade it for a 49mm filter thread version for use on the NEX.
21mm/24mm - 58mm 1.2 - 135mm f2, the 100mm f2 is acceptable as well for a trinity
The 135mm F2 is the most special then the 58mm 1.2. The 85mm 1.7 is a bit overrated IMO the 100mm F2 is better for bokeh. I had a 20mm but I sold it I want a 24mm.

mm can anybody tell me where to source the correct hood for the 58 1.2?
Depends which version of the 58/1.2 you have.
For the metal focus ring version(s) you want to find the D57KB. I found mine on ebay, but that was way back when the 58/1.2 could be found for $100.
It'll work for the rubber focus ring versions as well, but the vintages won't match. They made a more modern looking version for the more modern versions on the lens, but I forget the model number of such hood.

For which version? I dont know if this one is correct, I was told this hood was made for a Rokkor 50mm but used on the 58. But it's metallic and cool. Sry about the darkish photo.
