This Rokinon wipes the floor with just about every other 351.4 lens out there regardless of price. It really is an amazing lens.
I would love to see a comparison against the 35L. I love my Rokinon, but I find that I am using it more and more in situations where AF would be very helpful.

Does the Nikon version correctly turn the wrong way?
i recall reading that the nikon version of the 85/1.4 turns the standard nikon way (which is definitely the wrong way ). i assume the same should be true for the 35/1.4.
I was actually hoping it would turn the correct direct, not the Nikon (wrong) direction, but good attention to detail on Samyang's part. I just can't go back and forth between Leica/Nikon with the stupid focus direct differences. It nearly gave me an aneurysm.
Hi. I'm new to FM, but have been an active member on the TDP forum for quite some time now. I did a small comparison between the Rokinon 35 1.4 and Zeiss ZE 35 1.4 on the-digital-picture.com, with some samples on Picasaweb from both lenses. I was really, really impressed with the Rokinon, but in the end, kept the ZE. Then I started reading this forum, and thought maybe I jumped the gun in sending the Rok back..!! Tried another this last weekend, and I couldn't get a sharp shot @1.4 for my life!!! I don't know if it was my eyes, my manual focusing skills, or just me!! But I have the Rok 85 1.4, and I can manually adjust it just fine, along with my Zeiss ZE 35 1.4(which I don't even use FC at all anymore!).
Anyways, here are the Picasweb links to both the Rok and ZE 35 galleries...feel free to check them out, and comment

I don't think that first links working though the second one does.
Did you do comparisons at other apertures besides 1.4 out of curiosity?

Heh, funny... I came from Pentax originally (and still use it), which uses the same focus direction as Nikon (clockwise), so the Canon/Leica system is wrong to me.
Hi Tariq.
I don't think I did, but I will have to check my LR3 catalog. I probably did, but I was so caught up in the f1.4 moment...
I think the Rok gallery can be gotten to if you click on the link, then on the right side of the page it under my name should be a link to "photos"...try that!
I'll get back to you on the other than f1.4 shots...

yeah, i have three lenses that i shoot regularly with that turn the wrong direction and it drives me crazy. i love those lenses though, so i can't bring myself to get rid of them. i keep thinking eventually i'll learn to transition, but it doesn't seem to be working.

I've grown accustom to turning them the wrong direction first and then correcting. And then I curse Nikon under my breath as I turn it back the other way.

I am not surprised, the new ZE 35/1.4's bokeh "wipes the floor" with the Samy/Rok's 35/1.4 bokeh.
Seriously, the under-corrected spherical aberration design of the ZE35/1.4 gives it its' class leading smooth bokeh and slow focus transition behavior.
@Gregg, I have the ZF 35/2, C/Y 35/1.4 AEG and have shot some shots with FM'r AjayC's ZE 35/1.4.
We tried to do a comparison between the those three lenses back in April. One thing I never got to try with the ZE 35/1.4 was an infinity type landscape scene with say a mtn. ridge in the distance to check if the field curvature of the new ZE35/1.4 affects the sharpness of the ridge near the corners. Just wondering if the field curvature affects(ruins) infinity distance type landscape shots like the Leica M 35/1.4 which FM'r Luka(Denoir) has shown to do.
@Tariq, I am ok with my C/Y 35/1.4 and ZF 35/1.4 combo. I still haven't seen a Samy/Rok 35/1.4 shot which has made me want to try it. If nobody posts a landscape comparison soon I might rent a Rok 35/1.4 and then do my own comparison.
Regarding the Rokinon/ Samyang Bokeh, it's highly dependent upon distance and, of course aperture. That's why I had asked about different F-stops. Ideally, various distances would also be used. Since I have not used the newer Zeiss 35 1.4, I have no idea if the bokeh rendering might also behave poorly at certain distance/ aperture combo's. Many lenses do have such a sweet spot.
Wayne, the medium to long distance landscape comparison is where I suspect you may find the Zeiss 35 1.4's lacking when looking at corner to corner performance.

Probably a white balance thing. I've seen similar when comparing Bower/Rokinon/etc on eBay auctions.
But I can tell you for sure when it arrives later this week (I hope).
and the mystery deepens. I messaged the ebay seller in your link. Here is his response to the color of the ring:
" that picture is supplied to my marketing department from Vivitar to put on the web, i did however open a box to look and the ring is actually more of a mustard color than yellow, why do you ask?"
Its not like the color of the ring matters, its just interesting because other than the original mock-ups of the lens I have never seen one of the 35mm's with a yellow/gold ring.
Ring is a gold/bronze color. Series 1 branding on the box but not the lens itself. Surprised by the mechanical quality (much better than my 85/1.4 Roki). Very sharp at 1.4.
looks great deadwolf! Now you need to add TONS of photos to this thread; I need to live vicariously through you until I get enough money saved up to buy one. Can you post a shot of the lens itself sometime? Are you shooting on Canon or Nikon?
