the 85mm definitely lacks contrast, in addition to feeling slightly cool (color response-wise). although the shots in this thread still seem a big cool, i don't seem much a color contrast difference between the nikkor/zeiss and these..
I don't see any difference with regard to contrast. From the examples I saw the Zeiss can have a better bokeh in some situations, but that's not enough to justify the difference for me (it probably would be if I used this focal length more often though)

In my last set of shots, for instance, I had to take a lot of saturation out.
And of course it all depends on what camera profile you're using in LR, etc.
Bumping this thread cause I'm looking at purchasing the 1.4. I like how the zeiss 35/2 draws an image more than the Rokinon... Just not sure I like it $400 more.
I also would rather have a heavier compact lens then a larger light lens. Weight is not a concern but space is. But again, not sure the more compact size is worth $400...
I had both, and sold the Zeiss. It was hard to choose, but the fast speed and IQ was better on the Samyang for my purposes. The Zeiss has incredible contrast and color, but also tons of vignetting and color-fringing. Sharpness is about the same, or possible slightly better with the Samyang. At f/2 to f/4, the Samyang has a strong IQ advantage, then it starts to even out on smaller apertures. I prefer the Zeiss at f/8-11, but how much more?
I also had both and sold the Zeiss. The only fault I could find with the Roki is that there's no room on the mount for a chip for Sony mount and the build quality isn't Zeiss but it's not bad like most of Sammy's other lenses which feel horrible to use.
I know this lens is great in the corners, but does this lens have a soul?
I love the sharpness, I love the price, I love the overall contrast, and I love how fast it is. And I will admit that there are a lot of technically great images here (and a lot of shots that demonstrate how sharp the lens is)... But on average I find myself less drawn into these images (than say a cron-r or ZM). But that might just be the placebo effect talking
My dream Zeiss has actually become the ZE25/2. I've been keeping an eye out for a nice used copy to come up for sale -being new I haven't seen many copies floating around. If one did I'd sell my 135L in a heart beat to fund the 25/2 (I love it but it's a redundant FL for me).
I go 8 years happily with one prime lens fixed to my 35mm; upgrade to a 5D and now I've become a pixel peeping critic.
Wait, this is a Rokinon thread... would anyone like to entertain me with some portrait/scene photos taken with the Rokinon?
I just purchased one used.
I noticed that my copy focus a bit before infinity: stopping at infinity every image is blurred. Is this correct or is it a bad copy?
After a long period of eyeing this lens (and ordering/returning a 30mm Sigma in the process), I finally decided to get one. I plan on upgrading to a full-frame body at some point, but in the meantime, the Samyang produces some nice images on crop as well.
