I just got my X100 in the mail yesterday. Still working out an ideal configuration for me but I'm quite happy so far. Are you guys shooting RAW only? I've heard from many sources now that the JPEGs are more than adequate.
I am not sure which color setting to use honestly, but I'm having fun figuring it all out!
ISO: Auto
Shuter: Auto
Aperture: Manual
File: RAW + Fine (if you have a fast card write times shouldnt be that much of an issue.)
Dynamic Range: 100% (most of the time I use the RAW file so increasing this serves the same purpose as EV compensation. If I know i want the JPEG I will increase this depending on the situation.)
Film: For street I set it to B&W so I can get an idea of how it will look using the LCD or the EVF. For people I set it to Astia.
Sharpness: Hard
Highlight: Standard
Shadow: Standard or Med Hard
More often then not, when shooting people I will end up using the JPEG as the skin tones are way better and I get frustrated attempting to reproduce it from the RAW file. They really do have a natural warm glow to them.
Is that 'spook central' from Ghostbusters? Sure looks like it.
Just looking through this thread to get a feel for the x100, the store where my wife works now has them in stock so I can get one with discount (and sell the nex-3 which I have never really got on with).
For anyone who knows the greater Phoenix area.. particularly Scottsdale.. this is sort of an inside joke.
Scottsdale street photography (aka walking at indoor and outdoor malls). Still struggling to find any decent workflow on the iPad.. so my images are definitely not as good when I process that way, sorry!

No - they do look similar, but different part of town...
I don't think the two cameras are particularly easy to compare. The image capture process and experience is very different at many levels.
One thing I very much like is shooting through the optical with both eyes open - a la rangefinder. It allows me personally to get much better timing (like above, while even if one doesn't like the photo, the legs in line the car passing, and the symmetry of the trees). I realize these things may be second nature to many, however this camera allows me personally to be more aware of my surroundings when shooting through the optical.
As stated above it's different than a dslr and much different than using a screen on the back.
Martin, 10c is great. I keep getting a "what's behind the door?" sense. Maybe it is the letter box? Is someone looking at me through there? I dig it a lot.
MJ, great great shot of the leaf! Such great color and detail!
Thanks for sharing guys, I have some new things I got to get into aperture, maybe tonight if Livy gets to bed at a decent time.
KibblesNbitz: Sweet shot of the aquarium. I'm quite the fish fanatic as well but gave up on planted aquariums a while ago as they take too much work. Which hood did you go with? I ordered the 3rd party one they reviewed on http://www.x100enthusiasts.com/
I got the exact same one in the review, the $50 JJC one. I love it, well worth the $50, although I got the $56 version that also included the cable release. I figured it was worth $6 more to have a cable release for long exposures...it only took 7 days total for it to get here from China with USPS, shipped on the 20th, and I received it on the 27th

Kibbles, is that an oem hood or aftermarket? nice shots to you both!
Its the aftermarket JJC $50 one, it great! Well worth the price, especially considering the cost of the OEM one. I can't tell the difference anyways...
Thanks for the response. I thought I spied a very minor color difference, but it looks fine and certainly at a third of the price well worth it. I think I'll order one today.
Preferred seller in mind?
MJ - I went out earlier this morning. I have no idea how you are getting such good macro results. The stuff I try to get - it seems like I can't really get close enough.. unless you are cropping a fair bit and dealing with subsequent noise etc?
