I'm not knocking Samsung design or quality. Just that I don't see many of them "in hand" at zoos and so forth. Maybe the Samsung share in the Far East is much higher than North America?

The 2009 figures are not available anywhere. The reporter in that German article kind of mocked Canon for their declining worldwide DSLR market shares... that is before Canon made a huge turnaround in 2010 at the expense of Nikon.
I finally understand why Canon upper management seems far more wary of Sony than Nikon.

I will still prefer Sony for TV but anyway how is that related to the SLR's? Apple actually suing Samsung for stilling design and ideas. So, I am not sure about innovations as well, I am sure Intel could make same processors if Apple will ask.
In 2006 to 2008, the numbers are similar but not quite the same as those for the worldwide market reported in Photoscala.de. The Canon/Nikon market shares were similar in 2006 and 2008 for both Japanese and worldwide markets. In 2007, Nikon had a bigger market share than Canon in Japan alone, but that was not repeated in the worldwide market. In 2010, the Japanese and worldwide (as reported in Bloomberg) markets seemed to part ways... shockingly different actually.

It's probably because Nikon's management seems to be obsessed with iterating new versions of a "5D killer", while Canon has long since moved on to higher resolution cameras.
