A mating pair of giraffe weevil / long necked beetle, [I]Cycnotrchelus sp[/I]. Ever since i spotted my first giraffe weevil back in March 8, 2008, I have been on the look out for for a mating pair. Finally, I got lucky on Oct 9, 2010. I found not just one but two mating pairs on that day!

Really fantastic shots!

I prefer those with a more natural background, so #1 and #4 are really amazing IMO. Not very keen on the upside-down photo, though.

Actually, the upside down image was the most natural shot of all. That's how i found them. For all other shots, the green bg was from some leaf.

I love weevils, such interesting looking animals.
Great series of pics and great work on documenting what is probably a rarely seen event.

I understand what you say. In the photograph of Araneus diadematus I posted on another thread, the spider was upside down, too...

Pedro - the mating couple were upside down on a rolled-up nest. Had i rotated the image, anyone who's seen a nest of the weevils will know it didn't look right.
