At the risk of sounding dumb, learn what? Is SMP like a girly-girl thing that women strive to get in? I've heard of it before, and I've heard other 'togs (coincidentally, women) gush over it. Pardon my ignorance.
... what I wish I had done was start a similar blog in January 2007 and in only 3 years become the bee's knees.... my previous ignorant question still stands
Style me pretty, green wedding shoes and wedding chicks are excellent blogs that TONS of brides follow. I am not sure about the advertising part but when I have something worthy of submitting I am definitely going to try, I think its well worth the exposure.
I am part of Style Me Pretty "Little Black Book" directory in the Brooklyn, NY section. I paid $500 for membership. I have gotten so many inquiries that I cannot count how many I have gotten. Get on the Little Black Book if you can. If your images are strong enough on your site, you will get a lot of results.
Not saying they suck.... Just saying that 98% of my bookings come from word of mouth. I would much rather not pay for leads. I did the knot before... nada. Tried mywedding... 1 wedding. Word of mouth.... 34 weddings avg 4,500 - 5,000 per wedding.
Can you finish this statement to make this post not horrible? Like "Paid advertisements rarely pay off... without a well thought out strategic marketing plan."

It's not a bad idea, they would certainly get an overwhelming number of advertising inquiries without it, and a $50 charge is a good filter to see if you're serious and confident.
It is interesting though, if I was getting 10 wedding inquiries every day I could choose to charge $50 for a consultation, but I'd rather just post my pricing on my website and keep raising prices until interest dies down to a manageable level.
I was using the search function (Grits would be so proud) to look up "style me pretty" because I wanted to read some reviews and came across this thread, so I thought I'd revive it.
I paid the $50 fee, got accepted, and will be listed in NJ. If anyone wants to know how it works out, I will give you a full report in exactly 1 year.
FWIW, I read that SMP gets 3.7 million hits per month. 3.7 MILLION.
