Does anybody know if the Cokin Z-Pro adapters will fit the Lee Filter Holder (4" size)? If they fit, are their any disadvantages to using the Cokin adapters over the Lee? I have a Lee Holder but no way to mount it and they're still backordered most places. Thanks!
Doubtful the Cokin will work - Lee has been having trouble with keeping stock.
Try Calumet, Ebay or WTB on B&S - maybe KEH or Adorama used dept. Foam pad cut to size inside the opening of the holder to slide over the lens may get you thru a pinch.
I`m in the process of changing from Z-Pro to Lee and by Monday I will be in possession of both systems prior to selling the Cokin. I`ll report back then and let you know .
Ryan, no luck I`m afraid. The Cokin adapter has a greater diameter of about 7mm and so could never be used. Also the back of the Lee adapter is bevelled at about 45 deg. to accomodate the lugs on the holder, the front and back of the Cokin are parallel.
Observations and comparisons:
1. The Cokin system is easier to rotate. If I`m just using the polariser I simply turn the holder rather than the filter which is a bit fiddly and next to impossible if wearing gloves.
2. I also got the 105 adapter to use with a screw-in Sigma polariser. The thread on the Sigma is very slightly greater than the depth of the adapter which prevents it going fully in but some very small washers should solve this.
3. The difference in weight between the 2 systems is noticeable, the Lee is heavier and stiffer. This may be problematic if using a zoom which extends it`s inner barrel as more force is required to rotate both the holder and the polariser.
please explain why you purchased a 105mm mount what size CP are you using for what lenses?
1- actually the Lee holder is easier to rotate as designed and much easier to remove and replace in use
2- don't quite understand what you are doing here. a image would probably help to see and understand.
3- no not an issue at all.
i did 25 years using various A and P cokin mounts after finally finding the Lee found it works really nice down to 16mm FF w/o any cutting or hacking. this would be the equivelent to cokin Z. the Z limit due to its adapter ring design is approx 20mm FF
Lee holder:
lenses used and on all FF bodies
Canon lenses from:
16-35/2.8 versions I and II
to
70-200/2.8
all front ends were 77mm except the 16-35/2.8 II which was an inane 82mm
Nikon 17-35/2.8
to
70-200/2.8 VR versions I and II
all front ends are 77mm
the only oddball lenses i own are the 14-24/2.8, the sigma 150/2.8 macro and the 300/2.8VR.
When you start stacking filters - GND's - CP + GND's with space between them and the lens pointed towards the light source there is the possibility/probability for reflection between filters - even without reflection it softens the image. If you're stacking filters - I found it best to place them together face to face and hand holding without the holder if that's what it takes.
I have modified my Lee holder with a one slot and the second a double slot for two GND's and eliminated the third slot. I have rarely found a reason to use a CP with a GND - if you do - try to do it with minimal space between - handhold the GND over the polarizer directly attached to the lens.
