p.1 #1 · gfx 50s ii - settings for autofocus speed

i was testing today different settings combinations. biggest difference i have found is between single point and zone. zone was always faster. i was testing with gf 110mm in dim studio. zone size set to smallest. do you find some other settings to make noticeble difference?

maybe it is because with single point it requires placing point in a good place to find focus. on a zone it has a choice to pick something good to focus. but with zone focus being every time very fast it must be also something else to help. that was on gf 110mm.
today i checked on gf 50mm f3.5 and i could not see much difference. it seem that on 110mm often it requires longer time to move elements back and fourth to find focus. on 50mm that moves are quick.

Is speed important or accurate focussing? Like I have said 10 times before, if I am shooting portraits I use face/eye detect, both on my GFX50s and GFX100s. I see no issues. yes GFX50s/50sII are slow but what you expected with contrast detect. I haven't missed any shots in studio or outside.

both are important. i dont care if some photos are missed, but i cant shoot with focus too slow. and it doesnt have to be very fast. 50s ii is fast enough at it best. and im trying to optimize it to be best as it could.

one more thing, not the focus but general speed of taking frame. there is significant shutter lag in some cases. that is when you use some flash triggers, those fuji dedicated with all the pins. there is a bug in gfx firmware and when you shoot with strobes in manual mode it still waits for ttl flash. that make lag of about 0.2 second. that is my case as i shoot strobes in manual. there are workarounds, one is to use trigger without fuji pins (generic with one pin or dedicated to other brand - i use one for canon), second is by mapping ttl blockade to shurtcut button.

pal2tech talks with pete coco on fuji autofocus

and other video i ve seen some time ago

based on that, i set number of points to higher and try use single point with bigger size. pal2tech recomenned otherway that using less points is faster. will try to see if there is difference.
