p.1 #1 · MB-D18 Battery Grip From Nikon or Cheaper Third Party?

I want to add the grip to my D850.

Does anyone have experience with a cheaper third party unit that works well or should I simply stay with the tried-and-true Nikon version?

I don't mind paying for OEM Nikon version but any substantial savings in this inflationary climate is welcome.

The third party grips work just fine, I had one on my D850. It's actually for sale but I'm not sure if it would be worth shipping cross-border.

Other than a bit of build quality, it was functionally identical to the OEM grip at around 1/3 the total cost including the EN-EL18 battery.

The brand of the grip I have is Mcoplus and I think the Vello grip is the same product re-branded. The battery was made by Wasabi (high quality third party, Japenese cells).

If your goal is to get 9FPS and and "grip ergonomics" the third party solutions work just fine. If you want it to be completely weather sealed and otherwise built as close as possible to the same standard as the D850, you will need to get the OEM version.

I have the same experience OP. Here is an image of what worked for me with my D850. The grip was so cheap it does not even have a brand name on it.
