p.1 #1 · Cleaning sticky rubberized plastic on my X-T10
Hello, this is my first post here on FM. Thanks for having me aboard.
I just wanted to share my experience of "restoring" or basically cleaning the sticky mess that was once rubberized, textured, soft-touch plastic parts on my X-T10. I've been storing this body in the original Fuji felt bag that it shipped with. Removing it from the bag for the first time in about a year I find the EVF cup / cup had turned very sticky, as did the rubber sides of the body and the area under the LCD display. What a mess.
It was clear that I wasn't able to effectively clean these parts unless I took the body to pieces. Too many nooks and crannies. Disassembly is quite simple for someone with some electronics troubleshooting experience. Just be super careful with the wires and ribbon cables!
After disassembly I was able to remove all the sticky, melted rubber with a combination of 99% isopropyl alcohol and some Goo Gone. It's all back together and working as expected. There are some marks where the coating was removed but no stickiness. For now. (I hear it comes back)
Here are some photos of the melted / deteriorating plastic parts:

I have two Nikon film cameras that had stick rubber: a F90X and a F100. I did both with just hand sanitizer and paper napkins.
The F90X I was able to remove all of the sticky rubber on the back (the grip is fine)... the plastic underneath is nice and smooth like as if that's how the camera is meant to be.
The F100 I removed just the very top sticky layer, and then I found the more I touched it, the less sticky it got. Now it's completely not sticky with the rubber is still intact.
