p.1 #1 · Any opinions on the Nikon V1 and 18.5mm 1.8 as an everyday carry?

I like that this camera shares a battery with my f and z bodies, and want something to replace my phone as an everday carry. Wondering if anyone here uses it like that and is happy with the results.

It will work although output does not compare to any F mount camera that shares same battery, let alone Z. If you look past that, it's by far my favourite Nikon 1.

Looking for a camera I can carry on my at all times. If nikon wants to release something like the ef-m 22/2 I am all for grabbing a Z50.

How about the 10 mm prime. A very nice and small lens. Put it on a V1 body and it will fit your pocket.

My pocket camera is a Sony DSC-RV100 VA that has the 1" sensor, Shutter Priority, and does Raw file capture. It comes with a 24-70mm f/1.8~2.8 lens and an internal popup flash.

If I was going to upgrade this camera it would be to a Fuji X-E4 APS-C mirrorless camera and the 16-55mm f/2.8 Fujifilm lens or possibly the Fuji 56mm f/1.2 lens. The X-E4 is the closest thing I have found that compares in size and layout to my Leica M7 cameras.

The 16-55 wouldn’t balance well at all On the small xe4. I think that camera pairs well with primes, though (if you like the functionality)

People will look down on you, just because, but the 18.5 and 10mm lenses are superb, as a look at flickr results should confirm. I’ve got a Z7, but the V1 is a very nice, solid camera and provides excellent results, everything you could ask for, outside of very high ISO ranges and needing to print 21” on a side or larger.
Of course a full frame is “better” in the same way that a Phase One is “better” than your D850, but those are pointless comparisons.
It’s a great everyday walkaround camera, but I should note that the 18.5 is not a tiny lens, but the 10mm is, which is why I tend to gravitate towards that.

You are lucky to be able to go outside everyday

I'd try it out if you feel the itch, not going to lose anything and might earn a bit if you buy&sell at the right times.

Just from my experience though, "carrying a small camera everywhere" is a cute idea that never worked.

I've tried more than a few over the years, including "more capable" M4/3 ones like the pen epl series and APS ones like the sigma DP series. General impression: while it is fun to sample various small form factor cameras, the envelop between "a phone can serve the purpose just as well" and "I wish I'd have brought the faster/higher res/higher SNR body" is incredibly thin.

But "the envelop" is certainly a very personal thing, and you might very well find it well worth it even after the initial "new toy" excitement period.
