I recently changed jobs and the company I went to work for uses the Sony A7III cameras for video and photos. It's an awesome camera in almost all aspects. I haven't been able to get into the field and shoot much video with it yet, only studio work. I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience shooting video outdoors in the cold with these cameras and what I should expect of the battery life over time. How many batteries would I expect to use in a day's worth of shooting video? I'll be shooting hunting footage (turkey, deer, and waterfowl).
Honestly, never shot video in very cold weather, but you don't have to worry about just relying on the battery in the camera. You can add external power to the camera via the USB-C port, or get a dummy battery which powers the camera directly via USB. Both will allow you to connect to a USB power bank, many of which will be able to supply you with uninterrupted all-day power. Stocking up on SD cards would be more of a priority in this situation.
Depending on your usage (I always shut mine off as soon as I’m done recording) I’d go with two batteries in a grip with another two on hand in case. I don’t normally use more than two unless I’m just continuously shooting 4K in which case you will go through a whole battery every hour or so in my experience.
