p.1 #1 · How to fix a RF lens dust cap to work like a EF lens rear dust cap?
Hi there!
The RF lens caps fit in one position only on a RF lens - gone are the days that you simply could put an EF lens cap blindly onto an EF lens... Why Canon? Why? ? ?
Some sort of work around was to color in the little slit of the RF cap. That helps a bit visually to mark the spot X.
You can put a RF rear cap onto an EF lens easily. An EF rear cap more or less can be put on a RF lens. Looking at both rear caps the EF rear cap has three equidistant short flanges, whereas the RF has one larger one. Will it help if one simply cut a piece of the large RF flange?

Although spendy, I bought Fotodiox "designer" colored caps for my RF lenses and RF adapters. I use orange for the RF. And I bought blue for adapted lenses like Leica before I sold that copy.
For the orange RF rear caps, I use a black marker to mark the notch.
Not sure why, but the cap is hard for me to find on Amazon using Canon, RF, lens, designer and caps in the search bar. I found it from my ordering history. The markup is hefty, so I only bought a few.

Different colors... why not? :- )
But do they allow for 3 positions like the EF dust caps?
PS: I used my partner's shiny black nail varnish for my cracked back lit laptop keyboards, and her white nail varnish for the lens dust caps and arrows on the arca swiss plate...

Its a regular RF. If you've used an RF cap, that's how it functions. Same simplicity as aligning most any Canon lens to a body. Look, align and turn.

Yeah the key problem is the LOOK part, that wasn't necessary for the past 35 years.

I guess my anal-retentive habit of always lining up the little dot on the EF lens caps with the red dots on the lenses will come in handy when I switch to RF.

I use red Testor's model paint on the little raised dot, and also a red sharpie mark on the bright rear face of the lens bayonet mount in alignment with the tiny red dot not visible from the rear. That lens dot should be a dome visible from the rear, and they should be unafraid of making it visible.

The marks on the lenses are also hard to identify. So I use the location of the contacts to help me orientate. I stuck some tape on the cap which corresponds to the location of the contacts and every time just use that to put the cap on. Contacts are easily seen and cap goes on first time everytime. No need to sharpie the lens.

I would rather have push on caps, than these fiddly RF ones. I had a long habit of dropping a lens in the bag slot upside down, mounting new lens, and then blindly capping lens in bag. Can’t do that anymore.
This bit me the other day. Couldn’t cap my fisheye Because I didn’t have a free hand and then it got a small hair on rear element while out shooting. Didn’t notice until I got home a whole series of photos had a giant black blob in the sky..
