p.1 #1 · Nizhny Novgorod, Russia - snowy churches

Hi FMers,
First of all I wish you, folks, Happy New Year and all the best! And a little show-off of the snowy Russian city Nizhny Novgorod with plenty of orthodox churches that look especially good in winter.
C&C are welcome. Details are on flickr pages.
Gear used: 2 Nikon D750 cameras and AF-S 28-300 VR and Tamron 17-35 OSD (A037) lenses, a tripod.

Hi Alex,
Very nice shots and vivid colors!
My favorite is the 1st one, although I think it would have been better framed a little bit lower to get the first storey of the church. I guess something in the foreground didn't allow you to do so.
Regards
Thibaut

Really magnificent scenes! As beautiful as so many churches, mosques, synagogues and temples are around the world, there is something special about Russian Orthodox Cathedral/churches that is uniquely moving. Maybe it is just me, but that is my experience. Thanks so much for posting your photographs - great as usual, Alex!

Thank you, my friend. I would love to frame it in full length but the distracting foreground left me no chances. So condensed frame is the most suitable option for the scene.
BTW I noticed you are from Lyon which I visited 2 years ago. It is a very photogenic city with so many interesting sites. Especially I like Part-Dieu skyscraper which I'd share here

Alex I love your snow scenes of Russian churches (I remember your Kazan shots). In the first one unfortunately the background do not do justice to the two beautiful churches. Keep them coming.

Thanks a lot. Unfortunately I'm not a relative of the God to be able to change the background. BTW the city is not freezed in centuries and lives and expands and changes. And the background is not the worst one I've ever met in my trips

Nice work Alex! Beautiful colors with those churches and a nice conversion on that Part-Dieu photo as well. Good to see those D750's still kicking out great shots.

That church, and others of this build, has always fascinated me with its architecure. But did not realize how vibrant the colors are! Well done Alex!! All are beautiful!!

Alex, your work is and has been really superb. I am certainly no expert on Russian Orthodox Cathedrals or Churches, but my visits to Moscow and St Petersburg (and surrounding areas) in the mid 2000's was a visually overwhelming experience (even though almost everything was under repair or reconstruction in some way). The artistic, architectural and religious richness viewable at the many sites I visited was incredibly inspirational - not surprising because the two universities I also visited (one in St Petersburg and one in Moscow - to see some of the art being created by the students was equally impressive - a huge pool of outstanding artistic talent who are also very creative and experimental!

Dan, the colors and the complex design intricacies - layer upon layer displayed on the interiors of these magnificent structures - is truly a visual experience to behold. I have several images from those trips on a poster on my website (PDF may be downloaded for personal viewing/use at - https://billdeuster.com/billdeuster_travelandcult.html ) Cheers!!
