Hello All
anyone have a hack for triggering a profoto B10?
the B10 does not have a port for a pocket wizard or old school sync cord
besides using a profoto trigger or A1 is there any way to fire the flash?
thanks
ps-asking for friend since i have the controller and the A1 as well
and i use B1 and B1 x
Set on slave and trigger with another flash? But if someone is willing to spend $1600 for a light, why not fork out the $200 for the required controller which provides much more than just triggering?
He absolutely needs to get an Air-TTL controller. It's an expensive light and simply using it as a slave makes it an even more expensive purchase because you can't use some of the prime features such as HSS and TTL. The mobile app does provide some control, but why buy such an expensive slave??
Wow, that’s lame that the B10 doesn’t include a pc sync port. I suppose it doesn’t matter as much for those using a profoto air remote, but I would have expected profoto to build more redundancy in case failures occur with both RF and optical slave triggering (as improbable as that might be). Makes me glad I haven’t replaced my B2s for B10s yet.
Would be good to start with what the other strobes you’re trying to trigger along with the B10? I assume this question is coming from someone that has another brand lights?
As for triggering by other means, as others have mentioned using the optical slave mode would work either using the flash from other strobes or a speedlite set to its lowest power to trigger.
Optical slaves can be a little finicky though depending on where the light is hitting the strobe or if it’s shielded by a modifier in some way.
Another way would be to use profoto air receivers (depending on your budget), and trigger the other non-profoto strobes using them, and has an air remote to trigger them all. I don’t know why one would do this though unless one really really wanted to maintain two systems.
If you’re trying to mix with Godox lights, you could use the older x1t trigger that has a hotshoe on top of the trigger and stack a profoto air trigger on top of the Godox trigger as it will give you a center pin fire (though I’ve found in practice that this is not as reliable).

i also surprise too about B10 doesn't have sync port.. it's really deal breaker for me because the B10 can't fully integrated with some light of profoto like B1, D1, acute D, etc light, except using B10 as slave light with air remote.. can't using B10 with other brand light becase doesn't have a sync cord is really dissapointing..
for example i can using elinchrom with broncolor siros with their trigger (elskyport/RFS.02) on sync cord and still can use HS ability on that light

That's not really correct though - you can absolutely use a B1, Acute D, B1, etc with the B10 and air remote. It just doesn't allow for that one redundant triggering function.
Not a dealbreaker for me. The only reason I don't switch out my B2s with the B10 is because they don't offer enough advantages to account for the price difference, especially considering how cheap B2 packs are right now.

The disappointment for me is Profoto drifting deeper into their proprietary world, whether by dropping the sync port, eliminating flash-tube replacement by end users, or by rolling their own Li-ion battery (and gluing it into the case). It's a dog-eat-dog situation in studio lighting but circling the wagons looks particularly desperate, and isn't going to save them. What is needed IMO is radical vision and open collaboration: people will pay for that, and for quality Euro-build. I think Leica makes a good corporate template. While that plays out, I'll continue with the classic packs like Pro-B2 (inbuilt Pocketwizard, optical slave, two sync ports with wired relay feature), and D4 (all that and USB).

Wow - I didn't know it wasn't possible to change the front glass or tube on the B10...!
What are Profoto thinking? This is a pro light, with pro expectations. I can't afford to wait 2-3 days to have a tube replaced, along with the grief of sending it off.
And what's with the inability of taking out the front glass? I like the flat glass, but I also need the option of the domes. The B10 can't use the domes...? Crazy.
Solves my future purchasing decisions though. I'm sticking with my B1's
I was right where you are On the glass removal. I attempted to remove the glass to see how hard it was. I ended up chipping the glass and gave up. I sent an email asking about the front glass. The guy said under warranty they would fix it. He also said the B10 was designed this way because of its size and mobility. I’m assuming protection of the bulb and it’s lightbspread. I bought a second while this one is in shop. I wanted two anyway. The light spread by itself is amazing. I do see how a removable glass would be nice and to be able to use a dome. However, the B10 was not meant to be used this way, according to the rep. I’m new to ProFoto, and have to say this unit is the bomb. I also researched the dome option and subjectively the feed back was not great.
This is what I love. It’s simple and mobile. Your kit = one or two units, preferable to have back up batteries, transmitter, back up batteries and light modifier options. It’s quick to set up and a blast to use. The light is beautiful. The B10 weight is not bad depending on diffuser used and lightbstand. It’s definantly made to be mobile. It’s quick to pack up a double B10 kit in my air porter.
I’m hoping to get further tests in when my schedule mellows.
