I love my GX85. It's a fantastic size and great IQ. But the grip is horrible. It's never been comfortable. I'm more accustomed to large grips like on my GH5. So I came up with a solution to 3D print a grip and wrap it with gun tape to give it texture and stability. Now the camera feels great. It can be used one handed and feels more stable while shooting video.
There ya go --do it yourself! But it would be neater to see carved-in contours.
I agree re the GX85's grip : if not horrible, it's yet a lot worse than that of the predecessor GX7, which I find quite nice --both concave for the fingers and a nice, frictive rubber. (Also well better than the E-M5's, where the add-on grip is nearly necessary.)
I agree with a contoured grip. It just becomes difficult for the printer to make the curves smooth. If I had a higher quality printer then, yes it's very possible. But I am overall very happy with the results
Nice-looking hack/mod you got there, maybe I should send you my Sony's for some custom work! Do keep us posted as to how it holds up or needs modification!
This makes twice in two days that I stumbled on folk's taking tools to their gear to make them perform-as-wanted. You might get a kick (or perhaps further inspirations) from this fella's (Hungarian wildlife photographer Bence Máté) handiworks...
