p.1 #1 · Thinking of swapping out my A7s for A7sii. Worth it?
Firstly, I shoot stills and my A7s is mainly used as a second for my A7rii. I use a lot of prime lenses and I switch off between the two cameras to cover different focal lengths. I've had my A7s for a year now and I'm thinking of selling it to trade up for an A7sii. I realize the differences are minimal, besides IBIS and getting maybe one stop cleaner shots at higher ISOs there's not much else. Has anyone else made the change and have any thoughts? Any other benefits that I'm missing? I mainly would like IBIS to stabilize my non OSS lenses.
I am very happy with the originial A7s as I like the smaller size.
The biggest differences for me (not that I have tried the ii) would be IBIS and 4k video internal in favour of the ii and against it is the size difference (others will differ).
I have another camera with IBIS and have had a few so am fine without it in a great high ISO camera. I also have an OSS lens and Canon IS lens that works ok.
IBIS alone though seems enough reason by itself for some.

Hi
I am just a lowly A7 owner, but the differences between the A7s and the mkII version are even less than the A7 and the mkII because you do not suffer sensor reflections and also already have the superior all magnesium construction.
For me the form factor of the "classic" A7 series was a big plus over the mkII and that was enough to offset the lack of IBIS which is the main differentiator.
You can already rack up the ISO fearlessly, so do you really need IBIS?

Had original A7, after that played with A7ii a lot, and now i have A7s. First i tried A7ii i thought it was big improvement. But after using it for longer time, i wasn't sure. Front and back dials are too small and a bit weird on a7ii series, grip is bigger, but it's shallow, so it's still not that comfortable for me. Body is heavier and it looks not as pleasing.
So now i prefer my A7s. Biggest negative was shutter button placement, but if you hold a body in the different way, it's really not a problem for me anymore. Also, it's better if you're shooting from lower angle and press shutter button with your thumb.
As for IBIS - it's good, but it could make things worse. I missed a lot of frames by overtrusting IBIS with people shots. They looked sorta good in camera, but when uploaded, they looked blurry. For landscape or whatever it's good, but for portraits i'd stick with conservative approach regarding shutter speeds.

Hi
I think you have summed the situation up very well. I have an A7 and feel the same way about the mkII version. For the way I use my camera I don't miss the IBIS so much.
It's easy to forget that if there is any movement in the frame then being able to hand hold at 1/3 or even 1/15 sec is not going to help you. I don't video so I cannot speak for that.
I do also have my stabilised m43 gear and some fast lenses for low light though.
