I'm curious to know how far Photoshop CS3 goes on a Mac. I use OK with Mavericks but I'm hearing that it might be broken if I or anyone upgrades beyond this version of OS X.

There may be some one here that can help but if not perhaps give Adobe a call and ask them. I've not had the best of luck when it comes to customer support but have had some. Could be worth the time. I too agree that giving thought to an upgrade is a good option. Only you know your needs so good luck.

I keep a copy of CS3 around (since Adobe released it without registration). I just tried it on a 2014 27" iMac, max CPU speed, max GPU, 32GB, .5GB SSD, and it ran fine. I didn't try to anything "heavy duty," but it seem to be totally functional.

I still run a copy of CS3 alongside CS6 and CC due to the manual pano alignment, which I need for work. It has run fine on all versions of OS X thus far (from Snow Leopard through El Capitan).
