This may be a stupid question but looks like we may have to tent/fumigate our house for termite treatment.
So my question is this: could Vikane gas possibly have any adverse effect on any of our cameras and lenses (say, on lens coatings, etc.)? I don't like to take all our cameras and lenses out of the house for 3-4 days, if we can avoid it.
Put them in sealable plastic bags and you are, more than likely, safe. And don't forget to put your camera cases, bags, etc., etc. in plastic bags as well so you don't get any residual effect from the fumigant when you put your camera gear back in your bags.
Why would you risk thousands of dollars of camera gear? Just take it out of the house. If not, I would double or triple seal it somehow, in containers you trust. From what I understand, it can be corrosive if it mixes with water (for example if the techs don't do a good job with the fans and dew or condensation forms). I'd be taking everything I cared about out of that house, personally. Sorry about your troubles

Vikane (SO2F2, sulfuryl fluoride ) is used as a fumigant because it does not leave residuals or residue. It's toxic but not corrosive, so it's a risk to living creatures but not to materials like metal, glass or plastic. Your camera equipment should be fine.
I would take any expensive camera gear, or other expensive items, out of the house, if for no other reason than thefts have been reported from homes that are tented.
Here in Sunny CA cameras are the least of the valuables you will want to protect. The pest control company typically contracts with a fumigation only outfit who will require you to open every private space in your house. A closed space bigger than a breadbox often qualifies. Under the tarp all the doors must be open. So you might consider camping out to defend your home or hire private security for up to 3 days.
All this is in case some clueless low life crawls under the tarp to rob you so they can get out before the fumigant kills them. Yep it’s happened before and when the felon expired the fumigator’s insurance paid up big time. Then the insurance company’s bean counters rerated the risk and fumigation costs nearly doubled with the higher premiums.
Criminals are better protected eh?
Time to get into politics
