I am an UWA fan. One of my reasons for being reluctant to move to FF was the lack of a nice UWA zoom. I bought one of these and was disappointed by it's sharpness, it left much to be desired when compared to the Canon 10-22. I actually went back to an APS-C sensor camera because I didn't like my options for WA on the 5D.
I really wanted to get another 5D, so I gave the 12-24 another shot, I bought a new one and it is spectacular. Of course there are compromises, but for what it is, I cannot imagine another lens being this affordable and offering the range that this offers. I am thrilled.
If you don't love your copy, send it in for calibration, since I think there are probably huge variations in copies, at least from my experience. Once you have a good one, it makes the 5D + 12-24 + 24-105 + 100-400 the perfect huge zoom kit.

Much has been said about this lens both positive and negative-
I have used the following macros:
Sigma:
50 / 105 / 150
Canon:
50 / 100 / 180
Tamron:
90
This lens has the most beautiful results of all of them, focus is spot-on, even to 100% the pics are sharp and contrasty.
There is much said about the autofocus speed on this, but I have to disagree with many of those that have complained, if you turn the focus limiter on, focus is fast and accurate.
I also have to disagree with those that complain about shot at infinity focus, I have found it to be pretty sharp, even wide open-
All-in-all this is expensive and heavy, but the image is produces are second to none!

None- price maybe, but you get what you pay for and I thought this was worth it!

Picked this up at a great price, and just love it! Paired with a 10-22 on a 20D, you have a perfect lightweight walkaround setup. Really a spectacular lens!

Over the past year I have owned the following Macros:
Canon 50mm f2.5
Canon 100mm USM
Canon 100mm non-USM
Tamron 90mm
Sigma 50mm
Sigma 100mm
Now I have the 150mm and without a doubt, this is my favorite macro! It is simply so sharp! I like the working distance, it is less bulky than the 180s and it is more practical for insects than the 100s.
I have always loved my macro lenses, and for some reason Sigma simply gets it right here, moreso than in any of their other lenses. A 150 is a great focal length for Macro.
The bokeh is stunning, and contrast and saturation are always dead-on.
I love the quick release tripod ring, I love everything about this lens. It will be in my bag for a long time to come.

Expensive for a non-L, slower USM than ring-type USM lenses

I had this lens when I first got my 20D, then I sold it to purchase a 50/1.8 and some other stuff... Well, I have since returned the 1.8 and picked this one back up. The result are so sharp, and @ ISO 400 on my 20D it allows for spectacular shots without a flash.
This is probably my favorite lens in my bag and it's my only non-L!!!!
