Canon EOS Rebel XSi (450D)

Review Date: Feb 26, 2009 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $600.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: small, good focus, fairly cheap
none yet

I've had this camera for over 2 months now. I do much travelling and it is a great size for my one-carry-on bag style of travel.

Image quality is very good. Another feature I like is the self-cleaning sensor, this gives me peace of mind as I change lenses often in the field.

Even at home, I'll put a 50 mm or 85mm or the 60mm macro on this body, put it in a Thinktank Digital Holster 10 and it will fit into my briefcase or small backpack.

For me this is a carry anywhere camera.
Too bad my ACDSEE v10 does not read the RAW format of this camera so I need to do the preliminary sorting of keep-chuck in Adobe Bridge or in LightRoom.

As a backup camera or as a travel camera I cannot think of a better body - for me.

Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM

Review Date: Jul 3, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: fast, accurate focus, sharp even wide open, short size, black
none for me

This is an excellent, excellent lens. I agonized over buying this one or the 85mm f1.2, but settled on the 135mm.
Its focal length is a little longer than I envisioned on my 1.6 factor cameras, but one gets used to it. For this reason I use it mainly outdoors where it excells as a good portrait lens.
Since buying this lens my 70-200 f4 lens is getting minimal use.

This is a lens you will not regret buying despite its cost. It should give you decades of peerless performance.

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM

Review Date: Jan 25, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: Very sharp Good size, given its specs Comes with a lens hood
None so far (it is an early "flare" model, I sent it back even thought I did not experience the reported flare)

Had this lens for about 2 months now. It performs very well under the conditions I use it. Last night I was using this lens indoors with a flash at f8 and at 100 ISO. Cursed flash started acting up, would not fire, so I switched the ISO to 800 and used the lens wide-open at f4. The reults were absolutely astonishing, I printed 11 x 14s and perfect 8.5 x 11 sized prints that were sharp, excellent colour fidelity and hardly any grain.
This lens is light, has a perfect range (given its size & weight), gives excellent results comparable to any of my other L lenses. It is a great travel lens and a good do-it-all tool if you can have only one lens for a variety of needs. BTW, I don't stare at pixels with a microscope & I try to avoid shooting angular objects, e.g. buildings, at the wide end. Every lens is a compromise: size, price, weight, focal range. All things considered, this is a GREAT lens.
For me, a very fussy & critical photo technician, this lens produces perfect results.
