Pros: powerful, versatile, rotating head, simple and intuitive menu system, works great with cheap ebay remote triggers
Cons:
A bit large to carry around attached to the camera ll day.

Excellent flash for the price! Extremely versatile and easy to use. Control system is easy to use.

Only downside is that it is rather large if you are going to be carrying your camera around. For that, I would recommend an SB400.

Pros: Great image quality from 70 to 200. VR works great. Can be very sharp with good light.
Cons:
A bit soft on the far end of the focal range (>250mm). In low light image quality can suffer a bit.

I use this lens for wakeboarding photography and I have had excellent results with it so far! Here are some examples for those that say this lens is not sharp:

Granted, its no 70-200 f/2.8, but its also a small fraction of the price! The only real downside that I see is that the image quality suffers greatly in low light (with a D50, newer bodies may have less trouble). It definitely shines outside during a sunny day, though!

Pros: Sharp! Great image quality! Solid as a tank
Cons:
HEAVY!

Image quality with this lens is superb! Extremely sharp from f/4 and up! Can also be had cheap if you shop around for a used version. I found mine from a vendor on amazon. This has become my walkaround workhorse until I can afford to replace it with a 24-70 f/2.8!

Only downside is that it is heavy considering the size of it. Also some people don't like the push-pull zoom, but I don't mind it at all.

Pros: Price, focal range.
Cons:
Not very sharp.

Not a bad lens, but I would put my money towards a better lens. It is fairly cheap, lightweight, and has a nice focal range coverage. But the image quality is poor on my D50.

Pros: Cheap! Sharp! Great lens for the price! Good walk-around lens.
Cons:
Not quite as sharp as the 1.4, but for the price you can't go wrong!

The focal range makes it a pretty good walkaround lens. It is very light and very cheap, making it a must if you are on a budget. Great for portraits!
