Slow Focus (Expected from Macro Lens)

Spent my first day taking pictures with this lens over the Christmas holiday. I was shooting pictures of birds and butterflies and I LOVE the working distance this lens provides with me Canon 1D Mark II (1.3x magnification factor). I was able to get crystal clear, full-frame, pictures without having to get so close to my subject that I scared them away. I traded up to this lens from a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro, and the extra 50mm alone made it worth the upgrade.
