Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L USM

Review Date: Sep 2, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $850.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: Very versatile an dgood IQ
pump zoom, a little on the heavy side

I bought this used for 850 Euros not USD.

I waited a lot to buy it as I was not sure about its quality rendition. I must admit I was surprised for the good quality it delivers. Expecially on the 1D 1,3x sensor.
I tested vs 70-200/4L and this last wins at every focal length but the 35-350 is much more useful for my purposes and the IQ is still very good. Not for pixels peeper but in the "real" world it does the job!

My only complain is the push pull zoom that in my copy is very annoying and it is not so easy to use.

Canon EOS D30

Review Date: Oct 6, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $620.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: quality under all aspects
The "well known"slow AF in low light condition

I purchased second hand in May 2004 for 620 euros. I don't know the real actuations number but I made about 8-9K pictures without any problem since then.
Even if I'm always thinking to upgrade, if you are not interested in large prints, there is not a real need to do it.
I like the feeling with it and when I'll upgrade I'll keep it for sure.
So I am very satisfied with it and the prices we see today in the Buy and Sell forum (3-400 USD) are very interesting and you can save money for good lenses!

Tokina 24-200mm AT-X 242 AF

Review Date: Jul 24, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 9

Pros: zoom range, construction, image quality

I bought used after reading all these good reviews here in FM.
To my purposes (family and all around lens) is very useful and lens quality is OK. I also have the 70-200 4L that I use more when photographing aircrafts (my hobby), as it has USM but image quality is not so far even if at the high end you notice it.
I noted that my version, at the end, is shorter than the canon lens; seems to be more like 180-190 (if my canon is 200...) but it is only my impression.

For me it is a very nice lens useful when you do not want to change lenses with a good image quality.
