Nikon 85mm f/1.4G AF-S Nikkor

Pros: Bokeh Sharpness
Cons:
Price

I had the 1.8G but after getting a 105mm F2 DC I wasn't using it. So I decided to upgrade to the 85mm 1.4G.

The main benefit has been shooting at 1.4 and 1.6 for family/candids which the 1.8 can't do. The 1.8G is sharp but it seemed clinically sharp instead of flatteringly sharp. I'd say the 1.4G is flatteringly sharp which is more inline for the portraits and things I shoot.

Pros: Bokeh
Cons:
Sometimes Chromatic Aberration (CA)

I got a more used version of this lens and wasn't expecting too much but this is now a lens I use ever chance I get.

The perspective and bokeh is great...Wide open may not be sharp enough but 3.2-3.5 is really great. Bokeh isn't as perfect as 105mm F2 DC but otherwise its really good stuff.

Pros: Bokeh Build
Cons:
Can take extra time to find best focus

Great lens !
Bokeh is lovely, skin tones are great.
The only issue to be aware of is that the Defocus Control ring may need to be set to R2 or F2 or Neutral and THEN you may need to Focus Adjust with your camera so it is an extra step.

Wide Open with higher megapixel digital isn't as great as newer lenses but you can stop down a bit to get adequate sharpness for portraits and the bokeh is lovely.

Pros: Price, size/weight, sync speed.
Cons:
ISO 200 is lowest it goes, high ISO not as good as current cameras.

My 1st DSLR camera.
Very Lightweight and takes solid pictures.
I've gotten 2 other friends/family to purchase it ( at much better prices now) and I still use it as a backup/ walk around camera.
