Light weight, Sharp, really fast AF

weather sealing
|
|
This is the longest focal length lens I ever griped, It needs training to be used to hunt the shot you want on time. Light weight and the built in hood is very practical. The only thing I would complain about is weather sealing that is missing. Of course sharp f5.6. It is really fun to use such a lens. Great bokeh for 5.6. Compared to the 5 times priced f4, this is a real bargain.

The hood is too long

This is an incredible glass, mounted on 7D. I found the hood is too long! it does not leave enough room, I remove it sometimes. This lens is inspirational - I would say, it opens new horizons.
very happy for this purchase. Highly recommended.

Surprisingly, I have got a bad copy, Soft.
From the first few shots with my 7D I have realized instantly that it is not what is supposed to be. Tried to figure the focusing issue with fine focusing adjustments (available in the 7D), my old non-IS one outperformed the new comer.
returned it back the next day. I have noticed when it came that it was not originally sealed, I guess it was returned back before for the same reason. canon quality control for the Ls should be more strict. The same problem of bad copies in their 24-70 L.
I gave no rate, until I get the real thing.

I have got a bad copy two days ago, the former non-IS outperforms the new one, depending on the reviews which indicates the exceptional performance of this lens I have realized immediately that it is a "lemon". It's in the way back waiting for the other copy. Therefore I gave no rating now. I am surprised for the quality control in the L family production. The same problem for the 24-70 L. This is strange!
