Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L

Review Date: Apr 22, 2016 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $2,300.00 | Rating: 8

Pros: Does 11mm. Substantial for the cost. Sharp. Does a nice job of making Nikon 14-24 shooters defensive.
Canon colors. Has no soul. Superwide is a thrill for only so long.

This is an amazing piece of engineering. Everyone raves about it and calls it a game changer. I rented it twice and then bought. I've tried to like it, honestly. Its super sharp, substantially built. Does a nice job of making Nikon 14-24 shooters defensive. But it has no soul. The images don't make the hairs go up on my back. Zeiss is my home.

Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II

Review Date: Jul 20, 2010 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,000.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: Rock solid build quality, Precise AF, Great dynamic range
Images seem a bit soft but this is a common issue, small LCD compared to newer offerings

Really excels with fast L primes. My floral closeups using extension tubes seem to be a bit soft and with less pop than my 5D. The good news is that I can trust and use the AF whereas on my 5D it was a lot more hit and miss.

Burton Snowboards Zoom Pack

Review Date: Jul 11, 2010 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $75.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: More of a real hiking backcountry pack, nice waist belt support system. Holds gear securely behind back in a discreet access area. Not obviously a camera bag. Plenty of little spaces for various things.
After about 4 hrs hiking full of gear it starts to dig into the shoulders.

I have the smaller version without the pouch for the laptop but am otherwise very happy with this bag. I usually go to it when one of my mountainsmith shoulder bags isnt enough. Room for my gripped 5D, 4-5 lenses, filters etc. and waterbottle, jacket, snacks, tripod on back or slinged into the waist belt. I again like it that its not obviously a camera bag.

Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM

Review Date: Jul 4, 2010 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,300.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Very sharp, great colors, little distortion, built like a tank
The lens coating helps but its no polarizer

A stellar performer for architecture and that wwwiiiiddddeee perspective which brings out the creativity. Very solid build quality. I often end up going for my 17-40 instead though when I need glare taken off water ie streams.
