Canon EOS 30D

Review Date: May 7, 2008 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 9

Pros: image quality, easy to use, many options and features, fast and reliable auto-focus, low noise, build quality, low battery consumption
lack of sensor cleaning system

Own this camera for 6 months. It was the last piece in a shop.

Now I'm really happy and satisfied with it. Images are wonderful, clean, colours are great, sometimes wrong auto white-balance, but anyway for 8,2 megapixels it's wonderful.
Noise is pretty low even on ISO 1600.

LCD is large, has wide view angle, but it's badly visible on direct sunlight.

Only thing I miss is sensor cleaning system. When I change my lenses, dust finds its way to get on sensor.

It's great camera and I'm looking forward for our next months spent together! Smile

Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM

Review Date: May 7, 2008 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 9

Pros: Sharpness, WIDE angle, colours, contrast, fast and quiet AF, build quality
vignetting, not constant aperture

I have this lens for two days now. I tested it, went for a walk with it and I'm very satisfied. For such price (304GBP) probably you can't get nothing better (in Europe...). only true oponent is tokina.

I've chosen this lens, because it's really wide and it has quiet and fast AF.
Vignetting is visible wide-opened, but at F6,3+ it's not a big issue. In wide-angle lenses world, you don't go lower than F5,6 many times, so it's not a problem for me.
Distortion is visible at 10mm, but it's easy to correct in photoshop for example. And I haven't notice any flare yet.

Build quality is really good, lens is solid, robust, very easy to control focal length and focus distance. about that caps and hood problems, really not sure what people talk about, I can put lens cap on and off, when hood is attached.

This lens is really good, you have to try it. Before I bought it, I also tried tokina 12-24 and tamron 11-18, tokina is very good lens, but I chose +2mm and better AF. tamron has very poor build quality for me.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

Review Date: Jan 5, 2008 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $520.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: fast AF, fast aperture, small, compact, very sharp
AF uses micro USM instead of ring USM, lens doesn't provide focus distance information, sometimes hunts in low-light (on 30D), f1,4 isn't useful for large prints, visible CA and quetly soft

this lens is great for potraits on x1,6 bodies (makes 80mm), for now it's my only lens so I'm using it for shooting everything, but it's great.
I don't like that it's so short...well for most people it's plus, because it's small, compact, lightweight, but for me it was necessary to buy a lens hood, so now it's almost twice longer.
Lens is made of plastic, but it's in good build quality. that's pitty that lens extends while focusing, without that AF would be much faster...
