Pros: Super fast AF---really good VR (almost like magic sometimes)---very sharp pics---much easier to carry than by friend's 200-400 VR---I like! Bought used (but mint) for very decent price.
Cons:
Lots of folk comment on tripod collar---I never use, so thats that...

I have owned the previous 80-400 VR and found it to be a pretty good lens actually---I even used it for motorsports and found the AF could mostly keep up if pre-focused and panned carefully, but the AF is MUCH better on the AF-S model---used mostly on my D7100, but also good on old reliable D300...

Pros: I was looking for an all-around shorter lens to ride along with my 70-300 VR lens and this was it---bought used but mint for very decent price---over the last couple of years, I've shot many events, concerts, festivals, etc.---it has served me well...
Cons:
Nothing really sticks out---happy with this lens

Been glued to my D7100 (and sometimes D300 back-up body)---taken very nice, sharp pictures with this lens---good range for everyday lens---no real issues---lightweight (something I've come to like as I grow older)---very convenient---match with 70-300 VR for a traveling kit...

Pros: Mine is usefully sharp at indoor events---shot many with this lens on D7100 and old reliable D300---I am not selling mine...
Cons:
I really have no real issues with my sample, but another photographer friend bought one after trying mine and reported it was not sharp and did not like it on his D300 for travel pics---he sold it...

I wanted something wider than what I owned (used 30-35 F2.8 on FX film cameras) for my DX bodies---a really mint used example came my way at a decent price---used it in variety of indoor events---liked it VERY much---bright and sharp most everywhere (mostly used with SB800 flash)---just a great lens for this kind of work. You can see a little distortion (fisheye effect at wide end) if you don't hold it level and pay attention to what you're doing...
