Pros: Light Weight, Low Cost (relatively speaking), great performance.
Cons:
Haae not found any

I absolutly agree with the above comments. I am new to Canon equipment (I sold a bunch of Contax stuff-no viable digital body), and got this lens and Back Ordered the new 17~40 f4L. I use this lens when my wife and I go on long walks at the Jersey Shore and it's light weight and easy handling are wonderful. I just made a 10D ressed up 13"x19" and it is sharp, grain free, and contrasty........magnificent lens!

Pros: Light weight, low cost, good sharpness
Cons:
Barrel Distortion

The lens is sharp enough to make high quality 13"x19's from scanned negatives. My big complaint is the barrel distortion. This is especially noticeable in vertical seascape shots where the horizon is about 1/3 the way down the frame. The distortion is so bad, the horizon is curved, making the shots unusable. Horizontal shots without straight lines, (such as landscapes, etc), are fine for this lens. An example of a picture made with this lens can be seen on my web site: www.modernpictorials.com. Go to the "LBI Color" page, and see image #S132A. I just ordered the 17~40 f4.0 L lens, and hope the barrel distortion is less.
