OS
Cons:
heavy, slow AF, image quality is not really good
This lens is really heavy if you want to handhold. if you use it on a tripod then the OS is useless so there is no reason to buy a lens with OS if you are unable to handhold it. The quality is not really good , acceptable at f8-f9, adn much worse from 300mm. The AF is really slow and hunts , i lost hundreds of photos because of this problem. The 50-500 EX lens is much better performer and faster.

New lens had AF defect - lack of QC from Sigma - DON'T BUY IT!
I bought a new 100-300 F4 APO EX DG HSM after reading the reviews here. Well, this was the last Sigma lens what i bought. I owned lot's of Sigma lenses but i never had this problem before.
I bought it online and after i received i tried it...well without luck...the AF didn't worked, no noise from the HSM motor, nothing, the focus ring was alsomt stuck. Contacted with the seller but he refused to pay my money back because i tried the lens, so now it's used. How can a lens hit the shelves without testing it???? Is this the new Quality Control from Sigma? and now i have to pay the shipping costs to the Service and back, so now i'm really dissapointed with Sigma...

Pros:

Sharpest zoom ever from Sigma
Cons:
nothing, this lens is a gem
This is the best lens that everybody should have. Really an underrated lens! If you looking after one don't buy the old DF (Dual Focus) lens, that is rubbish. This 28-70EX DG lens is fast, has amazing picture quality from f2.8 and excellent from f5.6 , small and not heavy. A top standard zoom lens for a small price!!!

sharp, small

poor QC by Sigma - lens had backfocus issue
My copy had back-focus issue so i sent back under warranty. After that was good. This lens is sharp from f4, at f2.8 is useless. The 28-70EX DG lens is much smaller and that lens is the real deal, sharp right from f2.8 and excellent from f5.6 so i sold my 24-60 right away...

Pros:

Sharp, good quality lens
Cons:
heavy lens, loud AF
if you don't need wider than 15mm than this lens is a bargain. I used this lens for youears without any problems, only the AF was loud. Lens is much sharper than the Sigma 10-20DC lens, very good from f7.1 and the corners are sharp from f9-f11. Lens has flare if you shoot into the sun because of the big front element but if you leave the metal lens hood on the lens then it's better. A bargain for your money!

lack of Sigma's QC, lens is soft overall, slow AF
Agai, lack of Sigma's QC:
i bought one second hand, but this lens is a lemon, you can throw it away. The lens was soft overall no matter what i used, really bad till f7.1, from f8 till f22 was overall soft. I think HSM doesn't exists in this lens because the 15-30EX without HSM was faster than this copy of mine. What i can say if you don't need a full frame lens you better buy the Sigma 10-20DC lens...

good price, wide

soft in corners, decentered - lack of Sigma's Quality Control
Sigma is not really good in QC nowadays. I bought this lens second hand and i noticed that the lens is decentered, the right side is not as sharp as the left. the lens is wide but the corners never will be sharp no matter if i use f9-f11-f13 apertures. well you know it - you get what you paid for...

Pros:
sharp, fast AF, build quality is good
Cons:
flare, loud AF
I really like this lens, very good for landscapes, soft at f1.8 but sharp from f2.8 and it's excellent from f4.5 , at f5.6 has the same sharpness as the Sigma 10-20mm DC f4.5-5.6 at f9 so you can imagine how good is this lens. Little flare and CA but if you don't shoot right into the sun then you won't see it.
Overall a quality lens for a small price.
