I've been happy with this lens. Some of my best photos have come from this. I've taken pictures with it and compared to the Canon 10-22 and not been able to tell any differences so I must have a good copy. Images were always very sharp and had great color and contrast.

I really wanted to like this lens. I had it and the Tamron 28-75 XR Di and went through two copies of the 24-135 before deciding to give up on it. The sharpness of the Tamron was very disappointing. 100% crops were not very good. Maybe this is because I was comparing it to the 28-75 (which is somehow rated lower than this lens by average) but I just couldn't justify keeping it for the extra range. If you only want 1 lens, this is surely better than the Tamron 28-200 or any of the super zooms but for a multi-lens setup I think this is too much of a compromise.

Pros:
|
sharpness, price, color, solid
|
Cons:
|
some chromatic aberration, flare, filter size

First things first: on a 1.6 crop camera like the rebel xt, the filter can be stepped down from 77mm-58mm (means you can keep your filters you bought for the kit lens and get rid of it) without vignetting (up to 2 filters). So this is nice if you don't want to spend the money on a 77mm polarizer.
Secondly, I just got back from vacation in Bermuda and was astounded at the sharpness and color saturation this lens produced. Contrast is excellent. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this lens. And for the price, you can afford to actually use it...plus Tamron gives you a hood! I'm buying another Tamron because of this lens.
