Pros:
Weight Reduction making it even easier for transport, crazy sharp lens. Continued Canon engineering of a masterpiece.
Cons:
It's a bit pricey. AF slows down quite a bit with 2.0x iii tele. More so than the 800mm and 1.4x iii.
All of you who are planning on using the 1dx and double stacking 1.4x teleconverters, it's a very very jittery combo. I'd just hang onto a 1d IV.
more to come later.

Pros:
Amazing Sharp, Very Durable and long lasting proving the "L" quality!
Cons:
this lens is aging, and from what i understand canon no longer does repairs on it. no weather sealing.

This lens is fantastic. If you can find a copy in excellent shape, then I say get it. I have had several copies of this lens and the 24-70 2.8 L and this lens wins hands down every time!
It is great on either a full frame or a crop camera and perfect for most situations. It does lack IS, so the 24-105 f/4 IS may be a better lens for some people...but if you need the 2.8 then this is the way to go!

I have used a rebel xt, 20D, 30D, 5D, and the 40D. This camera is my favorite. Even though i have the mighty 5D, I always grab this camera. Something brings me back to it every time.
I have printed images at 20" x 30" from this camera and they have been superb! If i were in the market to move up from the rebel series, I would probably get this over the 5D, and the 5D is a nice camera!
I love the live view and look forward to future generations of DSLR cameras that have this feature as it evolves.
I also love the 6.5 fps. This thing sounds like a machine gun when it gets going. It is noticably different than the 30D in tihs respect as well.
I start to see a little bit of noise around ISO 1600, but the images are still very good.
I wish Liveview was a little more advanced.
