There is a lot to like about this fast lens with USM which excels in low light and DoF. The USM isnt quite the instant and silent affair you get in L lenses and its also not as consistent in hitting focus every time.
It is very light and well priced. If only Canon could build it like the 85 1.8!

Hearing all the praise for this mkII lens I decided I needed to own one.
Its resolving power cannot be overstated providing insanely sharp 200mm images the you can crop all day.
The only very slight negative is the level of vignetting that can be seen at 200mm/2.8 although its certainly no worse than other L lenses.
70mm on the wide end also provides many uses for this lens.

I've owned two of these 24-70s in the past five years and of all lenses I've had its the one I can find least to complain about. Its arguably the most versatile lens available and performs consistently well. Neither copies exibited any exceptional optical flaws.
With the high pricing of the mkII version this is a lens I do not wish to part with!
Its weight is the only downside but on a FF its definitely recommended.

I'm using the shorty on my 5dmkII and on image quality is really does hold up well against my 24-70 and 70-200II.
STM focuser is functional and a lot quieter than the old geared types. Honestly though - its totally inferior to USM.
I bought the lens to give me a jacket pocketable 5d and for that I give it top marks - its way exceeded my expectations.
For the price its outstanding.

I've spent the past two years with a Canon 24-70L and 100-400L, both great and sadly sending my expectations on lenses a little high. With prices so high and my use being only casual, I decided I really didnt need L glass. To be honest, when reviewing my images I always favoured the fast shots taken with the 50 1.4 I used to own. So I've recently bought this Sigma 30 1.4.
At this price, I'm staggered at the quality of this lens. Rock solid body with a very smooth focus mechanism. Excellent focus accuracy and as sharp as the 24-70.
This is now my primary lens and as humble as it is, I'm getting the pictures I really want. A prime convert you might say.
Highly recommended.
